Extremely unsanitary and poor service, found flies in my soy sauce. Such a shame too cause the food was pretty good. DO NOT let the good reviews fool you, they have signs on every table saying that if you give them a five star review and show it to the staff they will give you a free soda.
Sanitary Issues: When I tried pouring my soy sauce in the dish, the sauce that came out had TWO dead flies in it. I immediately alerted the staff, they apologized and replaced my dish and brought us a new unopened bottle of soy sauce that they unpacked in front of us. But then they didn't even actually open the bottle so we had to do it ourselves by removing the cap and taking off the inner lid. The place had little flies flying around everywhere (same ones that I found in my soy sauce) Floors were extremely dirty and sticky, with random crumbs everywhere. Clearly no one cleaned them in a while.
Service Issues: Waiters practically ignored us after they sat us down. We said we wanted to do all you can eat and typically all you can eat places give you tablets, they didn't have one (which is fine) and instead you have to scan a QR code to do the same thing from your phone. However, they never told us we have to do this and the QR code was small in a corner of the table. Instead they just ignored and stared at us while we awkwardly sat not knowing what to do.
All of these factors combined just created a terrible experience for both me and my partner who were trying to have a nice date so we quickly ate what we payed for and got out. Typically we like to relax and take our time at all you can eats, but this ruined the mood and we wanted to leave. Anyways, save your time and money, it's...
Read moreEDIT: poor feedback from the owner resulted in one less star- the rice WAS bland and I usually don't prefer strong seasoning (prefer no salt on the meat when I barbecue for example). My friend who had the food with me agreed how tasteless the rice was. It was the main reason why I thought I'd leave the review. No point in disputing your customers' feedback openly and I doubt that attitude would help improve my experience (or anyone else's) in the future.
You get what you pay for. I might've had higher expectations for this place than I should have because I had heard good things about them. Overall it was a good deal. The sushi roll combos are very reasonably priced (just for $10 each, comes with salad and miso soup), offer lots of variety. However, a few things lost stars.. 1) they didn't offer wasabi- I understand they don't want to put it on the sushi because many don't fancy it but they could offer it in small condiment packets or a container like they do with soy sauce or salad dressing. For some (especially Asian folks probably) wasabi is essential for sushi! 2) the rice isn't seasoned at all. Sushi rice should be seasoned with vinegar, sugar, salt, oil and it's so important. But their rice was pure bland it had no flavour, which was very disappointing. Having sushi without proper rice seasoning aaaand wasabi was pretty disastrous. 3) the eel piece had bones.. which isn't a huge deal but thought I'd mention. I would've left 2 stars if it weren't for the price but again I got what I paid for so I'll just leave it at 3. Definitely better than grocery store bought sushi but I probably won't go back for my big sushi cravings because their food just...
Read moreSo, being as it's March break, I decided to take my daughter downtown for some mom-daughter time. We originally went down to try out an ice cream spot we saw on Instagram and decided to grab lunch with my sister. There were quite a few sushi spots on this stretch of Bloor Street and initially, I wasn't sure which one to choose. I jumped online to view the lunch specials and although there was another place that was slightly cheaper, I went with Monkey Sushi because I couldn't believe what was included in the lunch bento(everything I'm used to having with dinner bentos). Let just say, I was not disappointed in the least. The portion size was amazing, the rolls were big, fresh and simply delicious. I couldn't believe how good the food was, given the price and the unassuming look of the place. Like most of the sushi spots and other stores on this stretch, it's small and doesn't have any unnecessary bells and whistles. The lady who served us was very friendly, polite and fast. I don't have any complaints and the fact that they're prepping take-out orders at the front didn't impact my experience. If you're in the area, it's well worth dropping by. Heck, I live in Scarborough and I'm already trying to plan my next visit 🤣. An overall great experience and...
