I would not recommend this restaurant at all to anyone who wants authentic Japanese food. I ordered Japanese style fired chicken Karaage and pork tenderloin curry. The fried chicken is definitely not Japanese Karaage. Japanese Karaage should be boneless pieced chicken with lemon and salt or pepper on the top. The “japanese style” fried chicken they serve here I believe are just the Korean fried chicken wing without any sauce. I suspect they fry chicken wings once, and if you want Korean style, they dress it with sauce, otherwise, here is your “Japanese” style. The pork tenderloin curry is another nightmare. The pork was not marinated and tasteless. The meat is also very dry, I’m not sure whether it’s because of overcooking. The curry is watery. After food, let’s talk about the service. It’s good that it opens in the late night. You scan the barcode to view the menu and then order on your phone. The waiters then bring you the food. I’m ok with this so that no one pushes me to order ASAP. But the waiters didn’t refill the water, nor did they check whether i’m done with the food. They also turned off the light next to me, where there was a couple...
Read moreMr. Tonkatsu is a traditional Japanese Tonkatsu restaurant. When we went (5pm weekday) it was completely empty! There were a slew of doordash and Uber eats picking up from the location though. We sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant. The wall had hangers for jackets which I loved! The server was nice and orders came out fairly quickly (10-15min). I loved my meal although not quite as good as the tonkatsu in Japan it was indeed authentic. My friend who got the thicker sauce didn't quite enjoy it as much. I got one of the more standard sauces and it was good to me. I do wish the tonkatsu were slightly larger (either that or the plate made it feel slightly undersized), however, with the soba I left the meal feeling full. The salad dressing for the radish is on the table so be sure to use it! Finally the soba was quite tasty with just a bit of spice. A nice way to end the meal. For under $30 I found it to be a great fall/winter comfort food. Definitely worth a stop in if you are...
Read moreI stopped by Mr. Tonkatsu – Wellesley around 6:15 PM for dinner and tried the tenderloin tonkatsu. I’ll be honest—the food was absolutely delicious, no complaints there. The sauce was flavorful, the meat was cooked perfectly, and overall it was a 5/5 meal.
Um so the experience was completely ruined by one of the male servers. I mean like his behavior was shockingly rude and unprofessional. He was yelling at another staff member right out in the open, even swearing loudly enough that I could hear it from my seat. It was incredibly uncomfortable and honestly disturbing to witness.
All the other staff members seemed kind and attentive, even the kitchen team. But this one server left such a negative impression that I have no interest in coming back. Service rating? 2/5, just because of that one person. Unless management addresses that kind of behavior, I’m not stepping foot in...
