Came to the plaza with my parents earlier in the week, with a craving for noodles. Drove around the entire plaza to see what they had and noticed this soft opening sign. I love trying new places. So this was a no-brainer.

I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu and my mom, the original. Mine was delicious. Great portion and broth flavour.

When my dad arrived, he tried my broth and ordered the same since it was delicious. Unfortunately, when his came, the broth was bland and not spicy at all. He said it tasted like boiled water, not even salt. It wasn't even the same colour as mine. The waitress tried to offer the spice shakers to compensate, but obviously my dad refused since those shakers weren't going to make the broth have flavour. They brought it back and had to make a completely new ramen for him. When the new ramen arrived, although now had broth flavour, still wasn't spicy like mine. So the inconsistency is an issue.

The free icecream was a nice and unexpected surprise to end the meal.

When we asked for the bill, we paid cash. The change came back and while we were leaving tip, realized the change was short $10. When we told them, it took 2 waitresses a few minutes to figure out what was wrong. A little concerning since how many people actually count their change after a meal and how many has that happened to that wouldn't...

Nicoca Ramen was a fantastic dining experience! The food was excellent, and the service was both quick and polite. There’s plenty of parking in the plaza, which made it very convenient. They also offer a unique perk: if you leave a five-star review, you get one free appetiser per person, so with four of us, we enjoyed four free appetizers. But even though we gave the five-star review for the free apps, the place genuinely deserves 5 stars!

For the mains, I had the spicy tonkatsu ramen with extra chashu. The broth was rich, and the pork was incredibly soft and tender—some of the best I’ve had. Others at our table tried the regular tonkatsu and the black garlic tonkatsu. The black garlic one could have used a bit more flavour, but a sprinkle of salt brought out its taste nicely.

As for the appetisers, we tried takoyaki and seaweed salad, both of which were excellent. We also ordered taco wasabi, which wasn’t part of the free selection, but it was very good. Overall, Nicoca Ramen is a must-visit if you’re after good ramen, tasty apps, and a...

Came to check out this new shop for dinner since there are really good ratings but was disappointed. In a nearly empty restaurant, the staff sat us pretty much right next to the restroom entrance for some reason and seemed to be in a rush. I ordered the tempura shrimp ramen and my partner had the shoyu ramen. The broth, although I appreciated it was not as salty as other ramen shops, had almost no flavour; the noodles reminded me of a Chinese-brand sort of instant noodles I used to buy, not ramen noodles; the tempura shrimp were mostly batter and was very oily; the soft-boiled egg was not soft boiled, looked like they really had a difficult time peeling it considering the layers of egg white that were missing and the gelatinized yolk looked almost old. The chashu in my partner's bowl was decent and the portion sizes were average, and they had a free scoop of ice cream included at the end of the meal. But would not recommend to any...

Tried Nicoca Ramen, a recently opened ramen place at the Midland/McNicoll plaza during their soft opening. Unfortunately, at least for now, the other more well known franchised ramen place in the same plaza has Nicoca Ramen beat. Ordered the first two options on the menu: (Classic) Tonkotsu and Shio, both $15.99+tax. When brought to the table, our server was not familiar with the term, "Tonkotsu" and knew it as the "classic" ramen only. Turning to the ramen, our shio ramen was warm and not hot enough. The best part was the chashu, with a nice charred flavour. However, the most disappointing was the ramen noodles. Ramen had an eggy flavour that was reminiscent of the egg noodles that are served at Wonton noodle shops. Also a bit too soft and missing the springiness associated with ramen. Free ice-cream comes with the meal. We know Scarborough needs more ramen competition, so hopefully Nicoca improves moving forward!
