North of Brooklyn’s limited menu is focused on pizza with a couple of salads, garlic knots, and a choice of two desserts rounding it out. The garlic knots ($4 for 6 or $7 for 12) are chewy and satisfying without being overly greasy, but I wouldn’t waste too much stomach room on them in lieu of pizza.
A fresh salad like their Caesar ($14) pairs nicely and is large enough to share amongst four to five people. The dressing isn’t overly heavy, which compliments the bacon, semi-dried tomatoes, and grated grana padano garnishes.
But let’s be honest, people are here for their pies. The dough has a sourdough finish and is stretched paper thin yet still arrives well toasted and crispy so there’s no sogginess, not even at the centre. The medium pizza yields six decent sized pieces, but because it’s not overly heavy, you can easily knock back four slices without a thought. It’s best to budget a large pie for two people and two medium pizzas for three.
I have fond memories of their kale and bacon ($21 for medium or $29 for large) and am glad to see it’s a combination they still make. The oven crisps up the kale, so it become almost chip like and there’s plenty of double smoked bacon chunks to even satisfy my carnivore husband. It’s also a nice white pizza (the base made with garlic oil instead of tomato sauce) to have a different flavour from the other options.
If you want flavour, the killer bee ($21 for medium or $29 for large) is a wonderful combination of spicy, savoury, and sweet. Chunks of peppery Italian sausage creates a richness amongst the gooey cheese. While the pizza could become too heavy, the pickled jalapeno and spicy tomato sauce gives it a heat that helps balance out the pie, while honey provides a sweet finish. I can see why this is one of their most popular pizzas.
The margherita ($19 for medium or $26 for large) is a classic and thankfully the cheese is now more evenly distributed than my first experience. Still with the plainer pizza, I would have liked if they finished it off with a sprinkle of sea salt as the cheese less sections tasted rather plain.
I guess it’s an excellent opportunity to add on a dipping sauce and their creamy garlic ($1.50) is the best version I’ve had. It’s certainly garlicky with chunks seen amongst the mayonnaise, but I like the addition of chives that add a fresher finish. It’s also a nice consistency, not too thick so that is becomes a spread, but not too thin either. Just be mindful, it’s a flavourful dip so a little...
Read moreI order from here 2x a month a drive all the way from Thornhill. In the summer we order 1-2x/week as we go to a family pool nearby. On Saturday night, I order 2 pizzas and a Caesar salad. The salad and one pizza (the cheese pizza), were good, zero complaints. However, the Vodka Verde that we’ve ordered countless times was positively awful. It was super thin, crunchy and had practically no cheese. It was very bad. We ended up eating one piece each and throwing out the rest (normally we freeze the leftovers and they’re great). I called to tell the store and was told they had no manager on duty and to contact someone named Elly. I was told she was aware I was going to be emailing and would get right back to me. I finally heard from her tonight (Wednesday night). She said that while she agrees the pizza looks a bit thinner in the centre than usual (an issue they’ve flagged internally), she confirms the amount of cheese they used is standard for their vodka verde. (There’s no way this is correct!).
As mentioned, I have ordered the pizza at least 30 times in the last year and have NEVER complained. Unless they changed the amount of cheese they’re putting on their pizza in the last 2 weeks, this is definitely not correct information.
The only compensation I was offered was a code for $15 off my next order (which doesn’t even cover the cost of the inedible pizza).
I called another location as this is ridiculous, to ask for the owners contact info and was told they can’t give that info out.
What awful customer service to get back to your customer after so many days- being a long weekend isn’t a good excuse- someone could have contacted Tuesday- (not Wednesday night). And then to add insult by throwing a measly $15 credit-which we will never use so please cancel it!
I think North of Brooklyn needs to work on their customer service (and pizza making abilities). How very disappointing. This company seems to have expanded too quickly in my opinion, and will completely alienate...
Read moreThe pizza was ok. Personally, I found the tomato sauce bland and, although there was plenty of cheese, the other toppings were a little light. My main issue is with the service and management. I paid for a large pizza, an arugula salad and a couple of Italian sodas at the counter (with a tip) when ordering and sat down at a table with my friend. Our pizza arrived a little while later but I never got my salad. The acoustics in the restaurant were so poor that we ate our pizza and left in order to have a conversation. When I called a short while later to complain that I hadn’t gotten my salad, the person called up my order on their point-of-sale system and confirmed that I was in, had paid, etc. I was simply told to mention it the next time I ordered to get a “free” salad. There was no offer of a confirming email. I happened to be driving by the next afternoon, a couple of hours before the dinner rush. When I explained the issue at the counter from first principles again, I was informed that nobody on site could authorize a refund and nobody would be in later. I was offered an email address to write to. After making it clear that I’d occupy a booth to write my review, the counter person offered to pay me back out of the staff tip jar. Having been a waiter 4+ decades ago, the very idea disgusts me. With tax and tip, I’m only out about $15 but the lack of management interest and accountability is very disheartening and, I presume, also responsible for the overall mediocrity of the food and experience. I’d recommend giving the...
