This neighborhood restaurant seems to be a popular spot among locals, offering a pub-style menu with something for everyone. Unfortunately, my experience fell a bit short of expectations.
After finding out that my first two choices were unavailable, I settled on the Korean Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich. While the sandwich wasn’t terrible, it didn’t live up to its name. It wasn’t crispy, and the “Korean” element was unclear—it tasted more like chicken coated in sweet BBQ sauce. The dill pickles were sparse, leaving the sandwich lacking in textures. Thankfully, the sweet potato fries were the highlight, although it would’ve been nice if the chipotle mayo didn’t come with an extra charge.
Another person at our table ordered the Power Bowl, which was described as decent but basic, with an overwhelming amount of dried cranberries throwing off the balance. The third dish, Soy Ginger Glazed Tuna Street Tacos with edamame, was also underwhelming. It lacked flavor, with red cabbage and a few dollops of avocado mayo as the only toppings, leaving it feeling uninspired.
On the plus side, the second floor featured a party room with several pool tables, and there was a corporate Christmas party happening while we were there, which added a lively atmosphere.
Overall, the meal didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The two ethnic-inspired dishes we tried could benefit from some tweaking to feel more authentic. That said, it’s possible the menu is tailored to suit local tastes, which might explain the simpler flavors. While it wasn’t my favorite dining experience, it could still appeal to those looking for a casual spot with a...
Read moreMy partner and I joined two friends at their invitation last night for dinner at this never tried before restaurant. The pub is definitely a local spot, but was not busy, likely due to the fact it was a chilly evening. Despite the chill we sat on the patio, which was equipped with overhead warmers.
We all shared an order of Calamari fritti served with a jalapeno mayo. It tasted good and seemed well prepared for a pub, but nothing to write home about. Our dining partners shared a Tribal Salad and an order of Pub Style Fish and Chips. They had no complaints, nor did they have great compliments.
My partner and I shared a Safari Cesar and a Margherita pizza. The best thing about the Cesar Salad was that it had fresh Grana Padano cheese on it. Otherwise nothing remarkable.
However, the Margherita pizza was a disappointment. The crust was tough and cardboard-like, betraying that it came out of a box and prepared from frozen. The toppings were lifeless and equally flavorless.
The price point reflected the quality of the meal, so I cannot complain about that.
Summary The Safari Bar and Grill is fine for an inexpensive bite to eat if you live in the area. It probably has a good vibe when it is busy. Don't come with great expectations of fresh, in house prepared food. It is more of a local Pub, and not a...
Read moreGreat Staff and a nice collection of menu options. Fish Tacos and Pizza choices are great. Daily specials can be a little expensive.
The downstairs restaurant is a little tight, but its great to have a causal grill in this part of town and avoid the fast food options. While dimly lit and sometimes loud on busy nights, the attentive staff and quality of food make it good for date night. A large patio on Avenue Road is good for the summer months. There is metered parking right outside, or plenty of free parking in the streets surrounding the restaurant.
The upstairs has a few tables, bar, restrooms and 2-3 pool tables. Play and catch the game on the TV, snack on some appetizers over drinks; Friday and Saturday nights can be make it difficult to get a pool table, and louder groups take away from the charm downstairs; its great to have the option or something to do other than just sit at a table and eat.
In general, expect to pay $15-$35 per meal plus drinks. Drink and wine prices may seem pricey, but really they are inline with any other dining option...
