Pearl Sushi — Restaurant in Toronto

First off I have come here for years and always had great sushi... unfortunately I just finished a very disappointing dinner. Not sure what happened to this place but was sub par today. -Tempura was a overdone reheat with very thick bready batter closer to pancake mix. -Maki roll was fairly mashed together and unevenly cut to give a very sloppy presentation -wasabi very mild... Not like the usual kick I was used to from Pearl. -dynamite roll was meh.. filled with same pancake tempura and didn't have the usual avacado top... Basically it was a California roll with a peace of Popeye's deep fried shrimp in it. I will have to inquire if this is under new management. Too bad if it is in which case I won't give another chance. Toronto has many options and higher standards for sushi for a restaurant to pan out such sub par at this premium cost for...

Great food and fantastic service. Walking in for the first time, I was surprised at how small the place is! This is not a sit down restaurant, but the quality of the food could fool anyone. All the food was VERY fresh, and VERY tasty.

As busy as they were on new years eve, they made the time to make our order. I called in advance and placed the order, and they said they would call me when the food is ready. An hour and a half later, they called me to say the food would be ready in 10 minutes. This gave me plenty of time to get ready and pick up the food. (Remember, this was new years eve and they were very busy with catering orders. Probably much quicker on a regular day.)

When arriving at the cute little restauraunt, I was greeted very politely, thanked and everyone had smiles on...

A delightful suprise, the reviews were right on cue. Très generous with the filling, we had the salmon roll. It was filled to the brin with chunks, not minced, just the way we like it. It had the right amount of rice, that being little as id rather taste the fish instead of the rice. Overall, great value with superior taste. Its a must go to every time we pass through this pocket. Sunny patio just outside this take out shop (theres no sit down indoors nor washrooms). Its a Mum and Sous Chef shop - they were so kind to wipe down the table for us as we sat down (without us asking AND the table was clean already). Truly feel welcomed being here. And always a supporter or delish food - especially since its more fresh and prepared by a Sous Chef - than the majority of the big brand...
