Other common ingredients in Vietnamese cooking include black pepper (mainly in the north), hot chili, coconut milk, limes, lemon grass, tamarind and cane sugar, supplemented by asparagus and potatoes, courtesy of the French influence. Methods of cooking vary from simmering or boiling to frying or grilling. Stir-frying using a wok and chopsticks is common. Many European influences can be found in Vietnamese dishes, including sauces, meats, cold roast pork, patés and baguettes (French rolls). At the other end of the scale, in some parts of the country there is still plenty of demand for exotic meats such as dog,...
Read moreI had the worst restaurant experience tonight at this place. I usually come here a couple of times a month and sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad HOWEVER, the food isn't the bad part, the food is actually really good, if it ever makes it to your table for you to taste it. My sister and I waited for 45 minutes tonight as people that we're there before us left and new customers came and they left and new people came and they left! I'm Vietnamese, I've worked in Vietnamese restaurants, and I understand what they're like. There isn't much interaction between you and the server, you come in you write down what you want, it comes out, you eat, you pay, you leave, that's how it is, that's how this place is and that's completely okay, but every single server tonight walked past us over and over again. I have nothing bad to say about the food because it's delicious but I hope this place really works on there service or at least ensuring everyone has food. You'd think with 6 people on the floor at 10 o clock at night when it's not particularly packed that someone would notice that a table has only received their drinks. Anyways I usually only give 5 star reviews to places that I enjoy and don't bother with any other reviews but tonight was so terrible that I was compelled to write this negative review. Good thing Jane and Wilson has about 4 different Pho places all within minutes of each other and at least they didn't make me pay for the drink that...
Read moreFood — I would recommend their pho over vermicelli, as their pho is pretty good. For the vermicelli options with shrimp on a sugar cane, they’re thinner and smaller than previous. I found they had less flavour, compared to before. Definite advocate for the pho!
Service — Servers did not seem like they wanted to be there. No empty dishes were cleared off our table. The server assigned to our table messed up one of our orders, and when we pointed it out, they angrily stormed off. Another server corrected our order, though. Our table’s server did explain a question we had about a dish on the menu though, which shows they had adequate knowledge of items on the menu. Food came promptly, not a long wait as it wasn’t busy.
Overall, 3/5 due to service. Quality seems to have decreased over the years, especially in terms of service. However, I do appreciate that it closes late (11pm/12am) as well as their affordable prices (~$15), and I recommend ordering the pho. I hope that in the future, service improves, especially given that service is crucial to a long lasting impression. I would love to see this...
