My wife and I visited this place for lunch as it caught our eye while we were walking from the TTC Coxwell Subway station. We had never had Venezuelan food and decided to give it a try and boy…… We are so very happy we did.
The restaurant looks great and has a relaxed atmosphere that made us feel very welcome. The staff was friendly and helpful in helping us understand the items on the Menu.
We both decided to enjoy some Arepas, something both had never had before. My Wife had the La culpa es de la vaca (Pulled Beef) and the flavor of the beef was amazing and the toppings were the perfect complement to the meat, the balance was dead on. I had the Reina (Sous-vide chicken) that was so tasty. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the flavors infused were just fantastic. We both were blown away with the quality and care put into this food.
We also had a couple of their Empanadas. My wife had the Chuleta Empanada (Smoked pork shoulder) and I had the Beef Empanada and both were great. Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. They also supplied us with some sauces that just added to the whole meal, just making the whole experience even better.
The last thing we had were some Churros. My Wife loves Churros and said these were some of the best she had.
In conclusion, if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a nice place to eat, you can’t go wrong with eating here. We both loved the food and the place and fully plan on...
Read moreI wanted to love this place but it just didn't do it for me.
I made a reservation online and they said over the phone that they don't accept reservations online so they didn't see it in the system when I called to confirm a week or so later. While it didn't matter in the end as there were plenty of tables, it was an odd enough experience.
The women's washroom didn't have soap or paper towels. And there was no signage to differentiate the men's from women's (one had a set of urinals). While this may have been intentional, some signage could have been helpful to show they they both are unisex bathrooms. This just seems like a very simple detail to communicate to ensure your customers' comfort.
The service was insanely slow. Like snail's pace. Our empanada came like 10 minutes after we finished eating our arepas. We ordered starters and needed to ask for side plates and cutlery, and it took a couple tries to get the right amount of cutlery (there were only 4 of us).
The food was fairly enjoyed by half the table. I thought it was just okay and not enough to look past the rest of the experience I'm afraid.
Oh and the menues were so wrinkled and old it felt they needed to be replaced years ago.
All these things combined mean I likely won't be returning. It's unfortunate because it has the potential to be a great spot. But especially since I brought family here for my birthday for a casual lunch, it felt like an...
Read morePomarosa is a beautiful Latino coffee shop and kitchen that provides one with a modernized version of traditional recipes. For example they offer arepas, that goes beyond the usual Latino food that typically include meat and cheese.
The little restaurant is cute and beautiful and it considers social distancing related to COVID-19, and it has laptop-friendly, so enjoy your meal as you browse the internet.
Beyond amazing arepas, they also serve salads and other Latin American drinks; the beauty is that they are made on-site from scratch! The owners Vivian from Colombia and Luis Hernandez from Venezuela so they bring a wide variety great food from their countries. Pomarosa gives you the sense of a romantic, colourful cafe and shows a lot of love and care has been put into Pomarosa.
Some goodies they offer are gluten-free arepas. I really enjoyed this dish that included the “Flores,” a vegetarian option with a hibiscus flower picadillo cooked with onion and tomato that manages to taste incredibly meaty. All arepas are made to order by hand. The Venezuelan horchata is made with sesame seeds, making it different, tastier and nuttier. I loved it! Parchita (passionfruit) juice is another favourite for me. They also serve a raw organic cane sugar lemonade, made in heaven!.
As far as coffee is concerned, it is one...
