We visited Yangi Sushi on the Danforth as a group of six. At first the server looked surprised and mentioned she didn’t have a table for that many people, but when we asked if we could split between two booths she kindly agreed. A moment later a man picking up takeout mentioned she was the only server working and very busy — despite that, she did a fantastic job and kept up really well throughout our meal! All the food was extremely fresh and tasty. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but the quality was there. We ordered the Yangi Boat for 3 ($94), plus Kimchi, Vegetable Tempura, and two orders of Salmon Roe. It ended up being far more food than we expected — the sushi boat alone would have been plenty for three people. We even needed takeout containers for the leftovers. Our bill came to $183 for three people, which reflects both the generous portions and the quality. They make their salad well in advance of it being ordered. It came in a bowl and was ice cold - the salad and the bowl itself were ice-cold. Dressing was boring soy and vinegar, maybe a little citrus but no toasted sesame oil at all. It was bland.
Sushi was bad. Maki had mushy fish and the rice was too moist and also mushy. There was no soy on the table so I had to ask for some. It too was also ice cold...that's a first.
Service was non existant in the mostly empty restaurant. They did not come to check on us at all. I ordered green tea and was not offered a top up through the whole meal.
At the end of the meal, we had put the chopsticks and chopstick wrapper on the plate to help with cleanup and the server literally tilted the plate and dumped them off the plate and onto the table in front if me and took the plates away...I have no words for this rudeness.
A regrettable experience, I...
Read moreYou cannot beat Yanagi for sushi in the east end. This is the best value and quality you will find in the area. I have made it my mission to try the competition and see who can beat it but they all come up short.
Whether it’s a weekday takeout lunch or a romantic dine-in dinner experience with your partner, the Yanagi experience will not disappoint. The speed of their service is top notch and the culinary skill is evident in every dish served. The difference is in the quality ingredients, presentation, and attention to detail.
The sashimi is always fresh, the tempura is fried to perfection, and the beautiful servers will always greet you with a smile. Stop looking for the best sushi experience in Toronto - you’ve already found it.
Also, the owner Daniel is a devilishly handsome man who takes pride in his business and customers. He will always go the extra mile to ensure your order is treated with the upmost care that you would expect.
