Seoul Shakers has completely overhauled my tastebuds with their menu. It has revitalized my perception of foods that I believed to have been heavy and itis-inducing to complex, gravitational, fresh, and somehow light.

I had the chance to indulge myself in some menu items available as of this review. The following is my take:

-Kalbi Empanadas, the crunchy exterior and smooth and velvet filling mixed with the sauce on the dish took me by surprise with how it did not scratch the roof of my mouth and was easy to eat, no liquids gushing from the Empanadas as I chewed, no intense shot of saltiness during each bite and and no change in my expression when I wanted more after I finished each one. The mix of flavors coming from the sauce and pico de gallow compliment the filling of the empanadas leaving each tasting with an increased sense of "lust" for another round.

-Eggplant Kanpungi, I am very much on the side of being picky with my food, especially when it comes to eggplant, at first I thought about all those times I had it as part of any dish and I loathed the taste before coming to Seoul Shakers, after ordering the dish the appearance of the eggplant was boxy in shape and solid in feel. But as I chewed the crunchy, crispy creases with soft internals of the eggplant mixed with the spicy, sweet soy glaze threw a flavor bomb straight to my brain through my tastebuds. I had a moment where I did not believe I was eating eggplant at all. Pairing it with the wild rice and bell peppers you are able to grab every last drop of the glaze that coats what was once on the bowl.

-Chorizo Quesadilla, this dish was hot to the touch, I could not hold it for more than two seconds before I had to put it down on my sharing plate. That being said I was always trying to pick it up and put it in my mouth the very next second I put it down. Similar to the empanadas the flavor profile of the dish had a mix of sweet, salty, and spicy but not overwhelming so you can enjoy each bit of the dish. The semi-soft and crunchy exterior welded with the melted cheese delivers the pleasure of the chorizo filling with the added pico de Gallo and gochujang. As a whole the dish kept me eating more regardless of the hot shell of the quesadilla as pairing the cool pico de Gallo set the temperature of the dish to a comfortable, mouth eating state.

TKO Punch, this evening our server recommended this beverage to start and it was basically juice, you wouldn't notice the alcohol from the makgeoli and soju. It was fruity but not tangy, smooth, and fresh. The addition of edible garnish shows that there was a lot of preparation because the pineapple was not sour; totally sweet and soft to eat. There was a small strawberry and usually those are sour but I was embraced by a sweetness only found when you eat honey and strawberry milk. The lychee was crisp and added an additional layer of texture to the drink. Finally the (Asian?) pear was not crunchy but soft, softer than cooked rice. This beverage, although neutral, was flavourful enough to pair with each menu item to both refresh the palate and yourself.

Overall my experience was head over heels aside from two minor inconveniences; the timings where service was here, there, and occasional which I grew impatient from and the sudden draft that came and contributed to my impatience. This aside the food experience should not be underestimated as it is something to be sought for in a world of late night...

absolutely worst experience. i don't even write reviews usually but i had to for this one. a friend and i ordered 3 dishes. one came out burnt/crispy so we had asked for it to be redone. one of the kitchen staff said he would do it then disappeared and never got back to us. 20 minutes later we asked another kitchen staff walking by where it is...he told us very rudely that's just how the food is done...so i'm guessing they serve fries half soft and half burnt/too crispy? we were confused because we were promised a new order of the dish...our old burnt/crispy dish was sitting there now cold because they told us we would get a new one...but suddenly they switched up. after much hassle it was taken off the bill.

then the night gets worse: our party of 3 was running late but on their way and we had let our waiter know earlier and it posed no issue. as soon as my friend and i were done eating another new guy (idk why they switched our waiter half way through the night) comes out and tells us we need to leave if our party doesn't come in 10 minutes. we found that extremely rude. we were not even asked for dessert options ...we were not asked if we wanted to order anything else. we were basically just told to leave. it was not like we were sitting there for hours. we were only there for 40 minutes.

as soon as my friend walked in...she didn't even put her jacket down before the man swooped in again to ask her to order. we felt extremely rushed and disrespected....they have absolutely no customer service. it's sad because besides that the food was decent....and the ambiance was nice...but that all didn't matter because we left irritated. they need to treat their customers kindly and have more patience and explain things without...

Came here in the early evening on Saturday with a group of 8 people. Overall the food was good, decor was interesting, and service was okay. The good: Food was definitely a fusion Korean style. If you're looking for a fresh take on Korean classics, this is a must try restaurant! Everything was good to very good. We ordered kalbi empanadas, tempura salt cod and fries which were among my personal favourites. We also ordered chicken wings, tacos, and basically a version of sloppy joes. The mixed drinks were strong and had unique flavours, with a fruity finish. It got busy rather quickly and the servers were constantly trying to make sure everyone was taken care of, even refilling water periodically. The bad: Although flavourful, I was hoping for more spice and heat in every dish. The portions were all appetizer sized with the exception of a few dishes - good to share with a friend but not really more than one. The lighting could have been improved so we could see our food better, even though I know it's part of the ambience. We interacted with probably 5 different servers, which made the service inconsistent and resulted in delays. I was also surprised that they forced 8 people to sit at 2 small tables. We requested an additional table at least twice and were denied, even though they had two people per table everywhere else in the restaurant. This was very odd and what made it worse was the tiny little stools and uncomfortable bench seating. Overall: I'd come back to try a few more dishes but only with my partner so that we have more space. It seems like an okay date night location, but definitely not for groups of more than four.

So worth the drive from our wonderful east end! Seoulshakers, the Junction, 1241 Bloor Street west. This has been on my To Do list since it opened, and it has made ALL the lists. Tonight, fate. One of my sons, who is a doctor in Ottawa, is doing a stint this week at a Mississauga hospital. At the same time, one of my step sons was available. So yes! Finally! We arrived at 6:05, five minutes after opening. We were not the first people in the door. By 7:15, it was full, and deservedly so! The space and vibe are super chill. As are the staff. Check your angst at the door, because the staff are running hard, so they will get to you, and the food arrives organically, which was fine by us! The formula here is mainly sharing plates, but one of our party does not share well, lol, so was relieved there are some mains, too. One of our party is a vegetarian, and although there are not a ton of veg options, there are enough to wow, because he said the fries (kimchi on the side), salad and eggplant were among the best vegetarian dishes he has ever had. My son and I shared a whack of things, each spectacular. Lordy, this was a great evening! Thanks, Seoulshakers !
