I don’t know why I haven’t been here sooner, but tonight was the night - and I’m so glad I finally did. Junior, the proprietor, knew it was my first time and immediately handed me a sample of his jerk chicken to try. You know it’s going to be good when they’re confident enough to let you taste it first - and yes, it was fall-off-the-bone tender and perfectly spiced. Junior’s proud smile when I told him how amazing it was said it all.
I ordered takeout - jerk chicken with rice & peas topped with oxtail gravy - and brought it home to enjoy. It was worth every penny. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of heat. The rice and peas balanced it beautifully, especially with that generous ladle of rich, savory oxtail gravy. For my side, I lucked out with the macaroni salad (they rotate between that and coleslaw). It was made with rotini pasta, cooked perfectly al dente - a detail I really appreciated.
Junior also slipped me a little container of Carolina Reaper hot sauce (3 million Scovilles!) and warned me to use it sparingly. Let’s just say my taste buds were on fire in the best way possible.
This spot is truly a hidden gem for Caribbean food in Toronto. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit. Next time, I’m definitely trying the jerk chicken stuffed patty. Thanks, Junior - you’ve got a new...
Read more$6 lunch specials--what's not to love? It is a simple and clean space for those wanting a quick meal. The special includes water or pop, jerk chicken on rice with a side slaw--the portion was great--not large but small
The jerk chicken itself could be spicier but the tenderness was really really nice. Rice and beans was good and the portion of meat to rice was very good! The slaw was enough--not a slaw fan but I ate it B wished there was hot sauce on the side though... Otherwise I appreciated the value and the cleanliness of the place!
The little shop is located in a little 'strip' city plaza with parking at the front, Ginger is a couple doors down and next it Ice Queen (a really old diner). It is located across a medical building which was convenient for those working or waiting on an appointment. It was definitely more of a takeout place as the two customers after me were...
Read moreDefinitely one of the best jerk places I've been to in Toronto! It's a tiny spot with little seating and no a/c unfortunately, so we ordered for takeout instead. Staff was very friendly and even offered us a sample of the meat and hot sauce which was a delicious combination. Several more customers ordered after us and it seemed the one guy working there prepared all the food at once which took forever. I'm sure we waited at least 35 minutes before we got the food but let me tell you.. it was worth the wait. The good guy had really packed the containers full of meat, rice, gravy and coleslaw and gave us extra hot sauce on the side. The jerk pork was juicy and incredibly flavorful. Everything combined the meal was fantastic enough for two meals even!! Drinks were ice cold as well, always a good sign in any restaurant! Loved every single bite of it and will definitely...
