First review: We have been going to this place for about 4 years now. Great south indian dishes and quality remains consistent regardless of the rush. Best thing to try - mysore masala dosa with onions They also have unlimited buffet in mornings that is super cheap!
Edit 1: Food quality and service has been compromised since last few times.
Edit 2: posting on behalf of my wife:
So I went around 5:15 pm today evening with my husband as the Nilgiris reopens at 5 pm after a break.
I ordered Mysore masala dosa(my usual as I very fond of it) and he ordered mixed vegetable oothapam. We saw that the red tomato chutney was not served so we checked with the servers and they told us it’s not in stock. Since we have been dining in there frequently there, we really loved it but we also realised that the quality of food has been compromised and the services are going downhill even more with each visit. However, we never thought in our wildest of dreams that this visit would turn out to be our last one when I found a piece of plastic in my mouth that I was about to swallow unknowingly while eating my dosa. I got this instinct that something isn’t right as I am trying to chew the food however nothing is happening to it. I immediate took it out and was shocked to see this piece of plastic. We are not sure if I already swallowed some of it. On confronting this to the server who was attending our table, she politely said “oh this happened? We are very sorry, we can exchange the chutney if you want”. That’s it!!! This was a life hazard and that’s what their reaction was as if nothing happened!! It’s a casual thing!!!! What if I ate some of it? What if there was a kid in my place?who will take...
Read moreIf you miss the south indian cuisine relax. Eat at the Nilgiri's restaurant in Scarborough and the taste will flood in and overwhelm you. Tried the dosas and the idli and menu vada and i have not tasted better even in India. Original taste, the sambar was to die for, the chutneys superb and the dosa itself crisp and tasty. Discovery for me. Great service though the lady in charge though seeming harassed always had a smile on her face and the waiters were quick efficient and busy. Very crowded but it was a Sunday. Please eat here for authentic south indian meals. I'm certainly going in for more.
Have been a regular at this restaurant now for more than two months. Always enjoy their food. Their lunch thali, available only after 12.30 pm till 2 pm is fantastic. But you have to ask for Roti's. Puri's are a strict no no. Though they have Aloo Puri on their menu it is always refused with the excuse, " it's over sir" Miracles do happen. This Monday I saw the Puri's floating past me and I asked the steward for some. His answer? "it's over sir!" I pointed out the plate going past and he was not apologetic at all. To do him credit he came back and said he had hijacked an order for me and I ate the delicious Puri with Aloo. Must have. Oh and the Puri's kept floating past me for the next hour or so. Hey Management! Wake up. Stock more and forget the excuse: "it's over sir". Two more things. 1. Your Lunch buffet has been over for months. Please take down the poster. 2. Why do you refuse to add "tip" to your bill? Surely your hardworking staff require it! One does not always have spare cash in the wallet. I make it a point to carry some when I come here.
Thank you Vandana for your smiling...
Read moreI’ve been to nilgiri’s atleast 10 times now.
Across all my visits, what I’d like to highlight is that there is no consistency in the flavour. The earlier you come in the day, better for you since you get everything fresh and in adequate quantities.
There have been times when we came a bit later and some chutney is finished or the taste is just not upto the mark, which shouldn’t be the case, ever!
The servers are very kind, polite and provide good service. The food today was really good too!
However their MANAGER gave us a horrible experience today which is why I’m posting!
We ordered 1 plate medu vada, 2 Rava dosas. Obviously, everything can’t be finished in one go and we needed to pack it and take home. Prior to packing, we asked them for some chutneys and sambar as we were still working on our meal and then asked for some take out boxes once done.
As we started to pack, he kept hovering and eyeing our table as though we are attempting to steal something extremely precious. He then went away and still kept staring at us! Like what? Why? I was so infuriated, I was almost about to question him what the hell does he think he’s doing.
We have dosa left over, which has been paid in full and require more chutneys to go along with it - simple logic! Why the hell does he feel the need to keep staring at a customer and make it so weird?
Typical Indian stingy behaviour which is so unattractive!
Management needs to highly work on it if they want to ensure customer satisfaction and if they...
