"Pretty good BUT I've experienced better!"
What time we arrived/Wait time? We arrived on a Wednesday morning at 11am. We checked online to make resos but they said that we most likely wouldn't be needing one since it doesn't get that busy. It's sad they'll assume that but I'm guessing it's because of the area and prices?
Atmosphere? It's a cute little atmosphere. One long bowling alley style. Very cosy and the seats are seated facing all different angles. Love how many booths there are! It is very olden days looking - rustic! Quite quaint and beautiful! It's pretty unique because it is the oldest restaurant in toronto that hasn't moved from it's original spot since the 1800s I believe!
Service/Staff? Service was just okay. Waiter didn't smile at all basically but he did the bare minimum and we didn't mind that!
Food/Menu? The food was good. They have all the typical breakfast stuff and they do it well. They have a lot of cool flavours and options too. I got the breakfast bowl with toast, potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado, and scrambled eggs. My friend got one of the big "good" breakfasts with french toast substituted for pancakes, toast, beans, smoked bacon and eggs. It was yummy! My bowl was alittle cold but the flavours were good together. I feel that going to cora's or sunshine spot would get the same job done!...

Luckily they’ve survived the pandemic, unfortunately they still haven’t returned to full menus and full daily meals. However Brunch today was fabulous. $5 #mimosas made with fresh juice and Prosecco was a wonderful beginning to our meal. #coffee #tea and #warmAppleCider accompanied our dishes. My husband ordered the #buttermilkPancakes with fresh #AppleCompote and #mapleSyrup he really enjoyed them. He also enjoyed a lovely side of #Bacon. I went with their brunch special. While not a full English breakfast, which I had hoped to order, It did have #bakedBeans #eggsOverEasy wonderfully cooked #homeFries #ChallahToast and to make it Canadian I had luscious #peaMealBacon I was fortunate to eat it with some #HPSauce which made it English. The server said they discontinued the Full English Breakfast due to people not eating the Blood Pudding, Heathens!! Overall a wonderful yummy brunch, in a cool place, with an old jazz vibe. My husband talked about eating at The Senator back in his University days or eating lunch while working down the street. I love hearing and seeing Toronto history, I’m glad I had the opportunity to eat here, I’d visit again #eatLocal #LocallySourced #TorontoHistory...
Read morewe travel from markham to the senator, a favourite of ours for 33 years. we park. we enter at 4 and are greeted with, "you can only have the table for an hour. we are totally booked at 5." not a warm greeting, but let's keep trying. the restaurant is empty except for 2 guys at a booth for 4 and 1 guy at a booth for 4. one employee is folding napkins at the back, 2 employees are placing napkins on the tables. one points to a 2 seater :"sit there.: we get the dinner menu. but the lunch menu goes to 4:30. voice from the back, "it's up to chef. we'll ask if he will make you something." we turn around to listen. no one has made any effort to welcome us, to serve us. so we leave after i go to speak with the man at the back who seems to be in charge. last tuesday, december 5th, was a theatre night, the restaurant was fully booked. what does that have to do with us? we wanted to eat. so you have an empty restaurant that is open, but you have to ask the chef to cook something from the menu that runs to 4:30 online, but in reality doesn't and you don't want us there. you can do that? why not lock the doors and avoid such an unpleasant experience for us. shame on you for redefining hospitality. there have been many employees we've met at the senator over 33 years. we'll be talking about these 3...
