I came in around 6:18pm as I was leaving St. Joseph to get some take out. I came in to see if I can get some food to go as it looked like a classic deli shop from the outside window which looked pretty cool. Now this lady behind the counter at whole plate, she had dark hair and with black eye liner. I entered the store and looked around and wave at her to greet her, didn’t acknowledge me..cool maybe she didn’t hear me. I began to ask for a menu and she came off intense and her respond “we don’t have a menu, whatever you see is what is listed and began to say everything is cold”. I didn’t mind if it was cold as I was hoping to try the some polish cuisine. But it was the fact that her disgusting attitude forego my experience even stay at this place. Won’t ever go back to the place as I felt very disrespected. If you are the owner and reading this, it’s a shame. My family was hoping to try your cuisine and unfortunately we ran into a bad apple. Ended up going to the next establishment where I...
Read moreMy maternal family is Polish: my paternal family, Ukrainian. I know delicious, satisfying, stick-to-your-ribs eastern European comfort food. And the food at the Whole Plate is the best that I have had since me grandmothers, God rest their souls, passed on decades ago. The cabbage rolls are the tastiest that I can remember eating (sorry babcia, sorry babusya). The (pork) meat on a stick, the breaded chicken cutlets, the red kapusta, the cheddar, cottage cheese and pork perogies: all are delicious. Even the potato salad brings back memories. And don't start me on the soups; my husband ate a large container of the tomato and rice soup by himself. The Whole Plate also has Italian dishes (meatballs, veal parmigiana, and many pastas) that look mouth-watering but that we have not tried because, alas, I can only carry so much. Check the Whole Plate out; I promise you'll...
Read moreNice selection of East-European takeaway foods, but... Two weeks ago my family and I stopped by this place to get some takeaway food for dinner. Most of what we ordered was quite good (Polish sausages, salads, Borscht, etc). The only exception was their lasagna; it was rather dry and hard to eat because of their edges. My wife asked the stoic-looking attendant if she could get the middle portion and the lady simply said; "NO". Maybe it is a culture-thing we are not used to but when we asked politely a 2nd time the lady refused our request. I guess so much for a "great" customer service. I had to admit that the borscht was excellent as well as the salads. That's the main reason I gave 5-star under "food" section but not so under "service" - kind of a...
