My husband and I dropped in for lunch and, firstly, I agree with some of the other reviews which rightly point out that you wouldn't necessarily go into this place if you judged it from the outside. There are several more 'upmarket looking' sushi restaurants nearby, BUT if you check the reviews you will find the quality of the food here is highly recommended. The outside veneer is dusty, quite worn looking, although the inside is quite welcoming and nicely decorated (have seen MUCH more basic in this area of Yonge Street). Now, we were visiting for the first time and had also not been in an all-you-can-eat sushi bar, so pardon me for pointing out the procedure, but I thought it might help for those also making their first visit. Many of the reviews here assume we all understand what 'ordering some, then ordering some more' means etc. Anyway, you arrive and are given a piece of paper with all of the lunch options on (basic descriptions only), from starters to desserts. You are supposed to take a pen and tick which ones (and how many portions) you want from each, e.g. where there is 'one roll' on the menu, you and your partner can choose however many you want each, where a roll means 6 servings, you are advised to choose only one, etc etc. We chose spicy crab, tempura shrimp, kamikaze roll, chicken fried rice x 2 (wrong, we should have just had one!) and mango ice cream. If you eat everything you order, you can order some more! The restaurant do serve in order, so it's best to order starters first, then entrees, then dessert will be served to you last. I can honestly say that every single dish was absolutely delicious, fresh, tasty, bold and subtle flavours and perfectly sized portions. The service was great as well, the place was crowded with the 'young and trendy' but, although there was only one server, she worked really hard, efficiently and helpfully to get people their food as quickly as possible. Something that is stated on the menu and which is helpful to know is that they politely request you not to 'waste food' as you will pay for anything that isn't eaten. Fair enough, it's pretty cheap anyway. We couldn't eat one of the two portions of chicken fried rice and only got charged $3 for it and, along with some delicious mango ice cream, out bill was an extremely reasonable $44. We left extremely happy and satisfied and will definitely go back there. I would advise you to order a small amount of food first, eat it then see if you are still hungry before ordering more. Highly...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I decided to try this restaurant because there were really good reviews on google. We were both really disappointed on the service and how the food was made. The waitress appeared to be miserable and irritated when she was required to do her job. She checked on our table once, however, we usually had to call her over. Right in the middle of serving us she sat down to eat her lunch, so it was difficult to get her attention. I almost felt bad for making her get up but before she sat down to eat, she didn't even check to see if any of her tables needed anything. When we did get her attention she looked irritated that she had to stop eating to serve us. I used to be a server, so I know it's definitely not appropriate to be taking your break when you already have more than one table to serve. I don't know what their rules/ regulations are around breaks but they need to be a bit more organized and planned. If she's sitting down to take her break, someone should be covering for her on the floor, which was not the case. The food tasted really good, however, all of our maki rolls were falling apart. We could barely dip it into the soysauce without it falling apart into the sauce- pretty irritating. Had it not been for the horrible service, I would have given this place a higher rating because the food was actually good, especially for the price (minus the messy maki rolls). I will not be returning to this...
Read moreI know my review is going to look like an outlier because somehow this place has a bunch of great reviews - but that's what we thought about the negative reviews, went anyway, and wasted our money. Instead of taking you through the evening, I'm going to take you through reasons for my 1 star.
The service was slow and rushed at the same time. The food was slow in coming out, the servers constantly felt like they were rushing you. After an hour of sitting on a Monday night, we STILL hadn't received all our food, including a salad, rice, an entire platter of sushi, and teriyaki. The food we did receive was staggered, which at first we understood because the place was busy, but when you only get 1 out of 2 salads, you start to wonder how difficult a salad is to make. The bbq eel sushi came completely ripped apart. I was worried it had been dropped so didn't eat it. The icing on the cake was this: We ordered shrimp and octopus tempura. So did the couple beside us, apparently. We got an order, they got an order, so we dug in. Then the waitress came to us (after we had already taken pieces of the shrimp) and said "oh I think this one is yours" and took ours away and PUT IT ON THEIR TABLE. We tried to protest saying that we had already taken pieces from it, only being told, "oh it's okay." Then she gave us theirs. WHAT. KIND. OF. SERVICE. IS. THAT. Hopefully my salad hadn't been pre-chewed.
So, you...
