Went today to enjoy a treat for my husband's birthday. Daughter placed her order, I then asked for a chocolate fudge brownie milkshake, only to be told they can't make that flavor in a milkshake because they are afraid it will break the machine. Strange but ok. I requested a different flavor, only to be told they can't do that one in a milkshake either. My husband ordered while I contemplated the other choices. I requested another flavor, to be told they can't do that one in a shake either. She then listed a bunch they apparently can't make into a shake. I asked for chocolate with chocolate chips in it, nope can't do that either. My final choice was allowed so I waited while it was made. Our server made sure to chat with the one making the milkshake and gossip about what happened. Meanwhile, I was looking forward to a nice thick shake and instead ended up with a sour watery peanut butter mess (my flavor chosen was chocolate peanut butter but there was no chocolate flavor whatsoever). I ended up throwing it out after 2 sips. My daughter chose cookies n cream and she tossed hers as well, stating it had a very sour taste to it. My husband chose rocky road but after 2 bites, threw his away too, stating it made him feel sick. Was very disappointed in the service and the product. We have been many times before but after this visit, we will not...
Read moreJune, 2024: They put up a note saying their employees are young and trainees and requested the patrons to be patient. Understood. Still love this place. Still love the high quality ice cream. However, I felt the cones were lacking in quality. I felt it a little stale. Anyways, I highly recommend first time visitors to have their ice cream. You will love it. Especially canadian favorites Maple Walnut or Nanaimo.
May 21, 2018: I still don't like the way the icecream is served. They are too slow. Except for this fact I would probably give them five stars. Visitors to this place.....expect to wait anywhere between one hour and 2 hours on a typical summer day.
Original post: Delicious ice cream. Top quality. People selling the ice cream are a bunch of young kids, probably between the ages of 15 and 18. I dont have any complaints but i wondered why they serve it slow when there is a long line outside....beats me. The style of taking customer's order ia also strange. Instead of writing it down they memorize the order and then they come back to ask what we ordered. Overall this is a family owned shop which serves great icecream. Worth the drive to go down there, no social media following you, enjoy the historical downtown and just DO NOTHING....
Read moreMacKay's Ice Cream is an absolute delight! Every visit is a treat for the senses. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the sweet aroma of freshly made ice cream and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff is always friendly and eager to help you choose from their incredible variety of flavors.
Their ice cream is some of the best I’ve ever had – creamy, rich, and bursting with flavor. My personal favorites are the classic Vanilla Bean and the decadent Chocolate Fudge Brownie. They also have some unique options like Maple Walnut and Saskatoon Berry that are simply fantastic.
However, I have one suggestion that could make MacKay's even more amazing: adding more Indian-inspired flavors! Flavors like Mango Lassi, Chai Spice, or even Kaju Gulkand (Cashew Rose Petals) would be such wonderful additions. These flavors not only offer something new and exciting but also cater to those of us who love the vibrant and diverse tastes of Indian cuisine.
Overall, MacKay's Ice Cream is a must-visit for any ice cream lover. With their high-quality ingredients and welcoming atmosphere, it’s no wonder they have such a loyal following. Can’t wait to see what new flavors they come...
