edit: 4 star sandwich, 2 star price, 1 star owner. Originally this was a 2 star but the owners response prompted a rebuttal and lowering of the score. Rebuttal added at the end
"4 star sandwich but holy guacamole is this place over priced. They must take lunch seriously to commit this strongly to their prices being this far out to lunch.
$11.48 for a large sandwich that I'd barely consider a medium does a great job of transporting you downtown. This place screams of a location that didn't localize for their new suburb.
The ingredients are good and the sandwich was decent but even at 9+ dollars I'd still call it a bad deal.
So many better mom and pop places within 2 minutes and pressed between a fat burger and a Pita Pit I can't imagine anyone who is going to come here twice at these prices. This places prices make Estrellas look inexpensive and their portion grand.
Completely unsuited to Langley. I hope they adjust their prices to suit."
Rebuttal to the owners response:
I wanted to respond to the owners counter points because I suspect they are deliberately misrepresenting both my original review and the state of quality food in Langley. Instead of ignoring my comment or responding to it in earnest they responded with a manipulative redirection focused primarily on how virtuous they are and how ignorant they want people to think I am.
Yes, their points about prices needing to support a living wage and quality ingredients can be argued as valid but have no baring on the actual concerns I leveled against their pricing. The point of my review was, and is, that the pricing of this location is completely ridiculous for Langley. Even when compared against local, ethical, and quality establishments! It is ridiculous not because it is expensive, but because it so much more expensive than its direct competitors. So much more expensive that an explanation would require either accusations of incompetence or malice.
There are many places where you can get 5 star food for a 4 star price. Big Star Sandwhich Co is what I called it originally, 4 star food for a 2 star price. I even called out an establishment by name in my original review that is 1 KM away that stands as a perfect example.
When I wrote my original review I just assumed Big Star Sandwich Co was making an honest mistake. After reading their response it looks much more like this owner is just wearing a cloak of noble intentions to hide their blatant greed.
I wrote a snappy review about a mistake that I hoped could be fixed, and they responded with pompous ideology.
Originally I was disappointed. Now I...
Read moreThis was comical how bad it was. I ordered a sandwich combo from them. The salad came in a little plastic cup(smaller than you're picturing) which is whatever. Small salad. The sandwich was literally the size of my palm. The whole thing. I could close my hand around it. I could fit that tiny sandwich in my pocket and still have room for keys. It was soggy too. I spent $21 on my order. Let me recap: Tiny salad, a pop, and a sandwich that looked like it was assembled under a microscope. $21. I am convinced that most of the good reviews for this place are fake.
Edit: I appreciate your confusion, but imagine my confusion when I spent $21 and opened a sandwich that was clearly built by elves. I've included a screenshot from a video I took of the tiny sandwich. I thought about ordering a special lense to actually see it, but I already spent all my money on this expensive sandwich. Just to be clear, the ENTIRE, UNTOUCHED sandwich is under my hand. Amazing.
Edit 2: ok so the owner contacted me and got me a free meal. He said that the bread supplier messed up the rye bread and it was too small. I got a number 28 and it was much bigger. What a...
Read moreI haven’t been here for a number of years. I wasn’t thrilled with my first experience, but I thought it’s been so long, that I wanted to give them another chance.
Disappointment was an understatement. WAAYYYY over priced for what you get. I ordered the smoked meat on rye. My jaw dropped to the floor when they rang it up and was close to $24 for just a sandwich! Sandwich was satisfactory at best. Soggy, meat was chewy and they didn’t add the extra mustard that I asked for.
Service was ok, but the place is looking tired. Won’t ever be back - as there are a million places in the area where your dollar takes you way further. This company will be under water soon enough if they don’t start charging realistic prices for the quality and...
