I went to Saba for brunch w my friend yesterday and we had an unpleasant experience. I asked the waitress if they could substitute the eggs for something else since I don’t eat eggs, she was very happy w my request but she agreed to substitute them for some avocado. Then our order came and there was no meatballs on my dish, and the dish comes with meatballs. I told her that the meatballs were missing and she kind of blamed for it. I guess she thought I was a vegan when I said I don’t eat eggs… so she probably ordered it without the meatballs. Then she brought the meatballs a couple of minutes later and they were frozen/cold in the middle. I complained to her and she said she would bring another one, but I told her I didn’t want it anymore since I was almost done eating and already full, while waiting for the meatballs… then she brought the bill and I asked if they would charge the full amount and she said yes. Very nicely I told her that she brought my order wrong, then I had to wait a while for them to bring the meatballs and when it finally came, they were frozen inside. I said this wasn’t fair. Again, I was very kind while explaining everything and instead of her sympathizing with the situation she had an unpleasant attitude and would barely look and talk to me. Then she brought the bill again without charging for my meal which I think it’s the least they could do. The point is, as a costumer I didn’t feel appreciated and understood, the other server I talked to was very pleasant but the one that was serving me wasn’t very nice. At the end I even said it wasn’t personal it was just that I didn’t think it was fair for them to charge me in full after so many mistakes. She didn’t even look at me… and made me feel very uncomfortable. I was nothing but kind and respectful. I’ve worked all my life with costumer service and that wasn’t by far a good service and because of it I will never go back and I will not recommend this restaurant for any...
Read moreFOR A REAL REVIEW, READ THIS: Not only am I a local guide, I live locally. I know all the shops here. I know most of the owners, and I get all the gossip and feedback from residents. The people at Saba are literally a stain on the community. I went to Blacksmith Bakery across the street a few months ago, and was going to leave them an excellent review, as their coffee and pastries are absolutely amazing. When I was leaving a review, I noticed some downright horrible reviews, and wondered "how could that be?" I look at the name on the review, and I recognized the person as an employee at Saba... lol. Seriously, can't make this up. I decided to investigate a little and went into Saba to compare. It's ridiculous. They literally copy everything Blacksmith does. They even have cookie necklaces for kids that Blacksmith makes. I don't mind friendly competition, but resorting to childish tactics like getting employees to smear your competition with fake reviews is absolutely pathetic. I will never give my busines to them again, and luckily its not a hard decision, as Saba's coffee is mediocre at best, and depending on who you get to make it, it could be horrible, as their employees are not well trained. They also don't make any of their own pastries, and instead bring them into the Fort from outside sources, so they're not fresh. I am not affiliated with Blacksmith in any way, but WHY would anyone go to Saba when they could go across the street to Blacksmith and get an amazing coffee made with locally roasted beans and brewed in a $20,000 La Marzocco expresso machine, and a fresh out-of-the-oven pastry that was made in-house by a pastry chef who trained in Europe?...
Read moreFeature sandwich of the day today was an inedible steak sandwich.. highlight was that the meat was cut lengthwise instead of cross cut and sinuy . My dog had trouble chewing it. The bread fell apart due to the greasy onions and veggies.. The lemon ice tea helped swallow down the remains of half which was all I could stomach. The soup of the day potato bacon was welcome though thoroughly sieved except for the bits of bacon and light green in color outside in the sunshine. The ambience was of roaring truck traffic turning from river road directly next to the sidewalk tables and 2 trains so loud they shook the ground and scared my mastiff dog. Cost was over $30 for this experience and no napkins for the grease. Glad to continue our stroll. However my stomach disagreed and a half hour later I begged to go home for the relief of having an open washroom to use.
Forgot to mention wooden cutlery given to eat soup had a spoon so shallow that flipping it over gave the same result in usage. The server who took the order although friendly had to check on every question asked even though simple such as soup of the day. After the third check it became tiresome. I tipped none the less but minimally.
The sidewalk tables the first one was too close for social distance to another diner. The second was over an ants nest and they crawled on the table. The third was over uneven bricks so bad the to go cup slid down the table. The fourth one had metal chairs to bendy to provide support for both myself and daughter. The fifth by the door totally...
