I went to this restaurant with my friend and kids after a day trip to Langley. My review consists of three parts: kids friendliness, food and service/premise
1 star for kids friendliness: (summary: this restaurant is very under prepared for kids. Not recommended if you are brining kids) 1. Crayons and coloring paper wasn't offered up front, but until towards the end of our dining time. 2. We were offered to seat in a bar level table instead of a low table despite we have a 1.5 year old and a 4 year old. And the booster seats were only brought over after 10-15 minutes while the kids were all over the place with nothing to engage their attention. 3. The water was offered in an actual glass instead of a plastic or paper cup with lid on for spill proof. 4. The kids menu was nothing special compared to other restaurants except it came with drinks a cool dessert.
3 stars for the food: for the kids food, the chicken was too dry and literally burned with a big piece of black on the surface. My 1.5 year old who usually eats well on her own picked out the chicken pieces and threw them away. I ordered stake with mushroom sauce. It was way too salty to my pallet because not only the salt was found on the sauce, but also in the meshed potato. The stake cooked exactly as I ordered it. But the salty taste ruined in it. Even the vegetable was quite oily and salty too and somewhat burnt. Maybe that's their styles. Some people might like it. Not me.
4 stars for the service/premise: friendly greeting front desk staffs. Professional looking plate delivery staffs. Our server attended to our needs just in time (e.g., pour water or give us napkins). Big screens for sports and games all over the restaurant, even in the washroom. Clean and organized restrooms. People are well spaced out for COVID concerns. Lots of entrances and exits available. Corner seats in the enclosed patio does not get too much heat, but get the breeze from the windows. But if you sit in the middle, you will...
Read moreMoxie’s wa a great evening out for us last night. The refit looks trendy and bright with lots of patrons enjoying the atmosphere.
The service was excellent. We had a slightly wobbly table that was quickly adjusted upon request. The only minor issues were as follows:
The chairs we sat on were comfortable but a little too short for the height of the table we had. This was explained as a temporary measure while awaiting new taller stools as the ones we had were a batch of rented ones. Sit in a booth or on the bench side if you can. I am sure it will soon not be an issue.
The prices are now higher than our previous visit. This may be owing to the recent renovations or it could just be ugly inflationary pressures. It was an expensive meal for 6 of us with three teenagers and three adults. The tipping options START at 18%. There is always a custom option but on a night out one expects to tip for good service, which we had. I just think 15% should be the minimum option. Tipping in general is getting out of hand pretty much North America wide. I did tip 18% because we had excellent and friendly service.
It was a joint birthday celebration for three of our kids. The restaurant very kindly gave us two complimentary desserts, which was quite lovely. I tipped on the whole amount, anyway, which was the appropriate thing to do and everyone left with full bellies and smiles.
It was a little louder than I would have preferred but the noise was all pleasant conversation with guests obviously enjoying themselves, us included. I only add this as a reminder that such restaurants can get noisy for some.
All in all, it was a great evening out for the kids and us all together. Go there and enjoy the food on offer.
The shrimp tacos were excellent, as was the salmon. The kids said their pasta chicken was delicious.
Will go...
Read moreOur waitress made it a difficult experience to enjoy.
(but- the white chocolate dessert is the best I've had in all of B.C. it is perfect! Whom ever made ours is truly a highly skilled quality chef)
The service we received however was less to be desired. They did not want to speak with us, they rushed us, they made rude faces, they brought our coffee late without new cream to speed off to the bar area to gossip and giggle with the other waitresses on three different occasions. The group kept making so much noise making drinks for one another that at some point another customer noticed and barked at them for blocking the path to the restroom and standing around 'chatting it up'- and then when it was time for the bill, our waitress made a remark about the amount of tip they expect from us. I could not believe the level of entitlement they had after the lack of professionalism they displayed throughout our meal. Mind you, the restaurant was not busy and we had come in before the lunch rush.
The main meals are okay. Very spicy and lots of pepper. The chicken strips tasted identical to the store bought frozen boxes. They arrange the food to look very fancy and it is good tasting food, their desserts are flawless but I don't believe the price matches the dishes.
Needless to say, we wont be returning but wish the best to the chef's in the kitchen. I would have liked to of rated higher but its difficult with the service we received.
Update: I've just read the 1 star ratings at this location, and an image of our waitress is uploaded with another customer complaining about their behaviour a year ago. The review has 4 likes making me believe that others have experienced the same. I'm extremely disappointed to say...
