We love it ;) The owner is visiting their family overseas, and I cannot wait for them to return. I miss their warm customer service and their delicious sushi

(Updated on Oct. 23rd, 2022) My boyfriend and I just counted how many times we have been to this take out establishment. It was 23 times!!! oh my goodness. I have never been this loyal to a restaurant before, and it always surprises me how high they maintain the quality of their sushi.

My boyfriend and I often have big sushi cravings. But we just had a bad experience from another sushi joint we thought they were good. And we gave a try to sushi1.99 to go last night. But they were out of rice and couldn't take any more orders. So, our cravings had gotten so big by the evening today. :D

We got a party tray A, a chopped scallop roll, and a negitoro roll. It was a good quality sushi for the price (seriously!). I have worked at 7 or 8 sushi restaurants, and have tasted quite a few sushi rolls. I am from Japan as well. So, I am particular about my sushi rice and I still want to say I really enjoyed it. It was more like softer side, but well seasoned and still had a great texture. I loved the BC roll as it had so much skin and meat. My boyfriend loved the Philadelphia or Alaska roll. I liked the fact that they don't overuse mayonnaise. I really appreciate that. In that way, I could taste all the fish and ingredients well.

This was, without a doubt, the worst sushi experience I have ever had. Monster Sushi in Walnut Grove is an absolute joke of a restaurant. There’s not a single place to sit—nothing but a dreary takeout window that looks like it hasn’t seen a renovation in decades. It's literally just a hole-in-the-wall with no effort put into making it a place people actually want to visit.

I made the mistake of ordering the Dynamite Combo for around $11, and I wish I hadn’t. The food was disgusting—completely flavorless, poorly made, and looked like it had been sitting around for days. The sushi was falling apart, the rice was dry, and the whole thing tasted like it came straight from a discount freezer. I wouldn’t feed this to my worst enemy!

To top it off, the lady who brought out the food seemed indifferent, barely acknowledging us, like she could care less about the customers. No apologies for the long wait, no smile—just a cold handoff of a sad, soggy bag of disappointment. This place is a total waste of time and money. Avoid it...

Yeah, not only fantastic prices and good food but the service-! We called them on an unbelievable busy night, they informed us of the wait time and we ended up declining. A few mins. later they called back, having trimmed time off to make dinner time...at dinner time. We were so very grateful and they were gracious to our thanks when we picked up. WILL BE BACK!!! Thank you, Sushi 1.99 To Go!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ **Update June 2023 We have been back repeatedly and whether we've gone simple with rice and Miso or experimented with unusual rolls...we have not been disappointed. My teens ask esp. for their Miso because it's the best of the Langley places we've been to!
