Definitely will be back to enjoy the Astoria Hotel!
I went for my first time yesterday to watch the Off Grid Comedy open mic, and laughed my ass off!
Love the unique, cozy, and historic design of this venue. Also, has a bunch of arcade games and pool table, if the comedians aren’t entertaining enough for you, teehee!
Had some food and drink specials and everything is reasonably priced. Also, no cover, which makes the value of your Monday night out, increase exponentially.
The bar service was professional, friendly, accommodating, and fast! The hosts and comedians were all friendly and welcoming, and super stoked people came to just be audience members, which made us feel extra special.
A great range of topics and styles of comedy, even some crowd work. I laughed, giggled, and smiled the whole night! As I sat in the front, I enjoyed interacting with some of the comedians during their crowd work.
I highly recommend checking out Astoria and Off Grid Comedy every Monday night, especially if you are wanting a beautiful venue and very supportive group of comedians and audience members to perform in front of, as anyone is welcome on the stage.
Because of how fun and supportive everyone is, I have been inspired to start learning aspects of stand up comedy, so at some point I too will stand up and make some jokes.
Thank you again, Astoria and Off Grid Comedy for such a great Monday night out and I will see y’all...
Read moreThis is not a kid friendly place and really not adult friendly either. Tourists should avoid this place like they would avoid the plague. Its filthy and disgusting i dont think its been renovated or cleaned properly in 45 years. The bar is not open regularly and when it is its home to a set of wierd people who dress like vampires and have blasting heavy metal bands screaming at the top of their lungs. The place is not wheelchair accessable there is no parking anywhere and the tiny beer and wine store off the lobby is way overpriced and the staff have a nasty tendency of double charging credit and debit cards. If you go there i strongly suggest that you go with a friend who can fight, have one hand in your wallet, and the other on a trusty taser or can of military grade bear spray. The boxing is in the basement and as far as i can tell there is no access to the general public to any matches or training. Its all kind of hush hush and not in a good way, its sketchy to say the least. This place is often used for filming in various tv shows for its skid row atmosphere and " rustic" ambiance. This place is in need of demolition its in the same catagory as the Balmoral and regent hotels the city appropriated for demolition. Stay away from it , seriously you will thank me for...
Read moreAnd this is how you do it! By far the best Comedy Club in Vancouver! Great interior in the Astoria hotel. Tables, seats, stools, bar, your choice. But I come here for a laugh. And all comedians were good! Best I have seen in this city!
Unfortunately it was not crowded this night, but all comedians performed and did not go to the easy crowd work. Gave it their best. Nothing political, no old Covid jokes and all great stuff.
Go see these shows! I will be back for sure. But next time I will take a taxi… Walking here over East Hastings is not recommended. Neither are the hotwings: no meat on it. Rest is great and the Irish guy was the best. Although he started his performance by saying he will hit on every woman. Why sir all the way at the far end of the room then… Luigi or Mario with the mustache was also great and the final headliner also. Then went to the Roxy to make it a great weekend. Thanks and all the best for the future! Oh and uh fire the...
