Prototype Coffee is an exceptional coffee roaster tucked away in Vancouver, specializing in sourcing, roasting, and serving high-quality, distinctive coffee. One of the highlights is the welcoming and knowledgeable staff, who create a warm atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
During my visit, I had the pleasure of tasting what was likely the best latte I've ever had in Vancouver. Their commitment to innovation and quality is evident in the taste of their coffee, providing a refreshing twist to the traditional latte.
Even though I got take out, I could tell this would be a great place to sit and enjoy your coffee inside. The interior of the cafe is captivating, with a modern and contemporary aesthetic. The atmosphere is perfect for a quiet read, work, or a casual visit with friends. Furthermore, it's mesmerizing to watch the baristas at work, crafting exquisite drinks with their impressive machines.
Their waffles are a must-try. They're freshly made, warm, and surprisingly doughnut-like in their texture. We indulged in two of their most popular ones, chosen by the friendly barista, and they did not disappoint.
Despite the cafe's location being a bit too far to walk to from home, the quality of the coffee and the overall experience makes it a destination worth going out of your way for. If you're a coffee lover in Vancouver or just passing through, Prototype Coffee offers an unmatched coffee experience that you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. I will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend it to others as well. Check out Flourist next door while...
Read morePrototype saved my relationship. True story - I am a coffee connoisseur and my partner who is a travel nurse took me on a remote contract to one of the northern BC coastal towns. The only coffee within 300km is a Timmy’s.
At first she said the coffee I brought was mine. Then she slowly began filling her morning cup with the specialty goodness I brew each morning. It got to the point where I was weighing the bags of coffee I had and figuring out how long we would last. I figured that if I got rid of her the coffee could at least last me until her contract was over. I was so close to locking the door and keeping her keys.
I found that prototype shipped their beans and ordered right away. After explaining my dire situation they sent out a rescue party in the shape of a package via Canadian Post. Once they learned that I was going to take drastic measure they helped by expediting the shipping.
I am writing this today to tell you all that I am comfortably sitting in the living room here in this remote location, sipping a lovely single origin coffee and only have kind and loving thoughts about my partner.

Read moreSummer in Vancouver feels like a fresh brew — warm, vibrant, and full of character. And today, it all came together at Prototype Coffee. With the long daylight and perfect weather, I stopped by in the afternoon and was surprised to find every seat taken — even at 3:00 PM on a Thursday. The shop isn’t small, but with only a few tables and chairs, I ended up enjoying my coffee on the bench by the wall. That said, it’s clearly a favorite — people just kept streaming in.
As I walked around, I was struck by their commitment to quality — from high-end grinders to instant-heating water taps that ensure precise, consistent brewing temperatures. They roast their beans in-house daily, and it shows.
I ordered the Kenya Rungeto Kii, and it was stunning. Every flavor note listed on the menu was present from the very first sip — bright, layered, and beautifully balanced.
The staff are not only friendly but impressively knowledgeable. If you’re curious about coffee or want to dive deeper into brewing or beans, it’s well worth striking up a conversation — you’ll walk away learning something new.
Prototype isn’t just about good coffee. It’s about passion, precision, and a community that truly...
