BEAN AROUND THE WORLD COFFEES, 4456 West 10th avenue, Vancouver BC …located easily a few blocks this side of the UBC endowment lands entrance off 10th avenue, parking nearby is easy to find. A friend with inordinately impeccable taste recommended that I try B.A.T.W.C’s dark Marine roast coffee bean blend, and I have to wholeheartedly concur with her opinions. I find this blend of beans to be my absolutely new favourite coffee to start out my day with- although now and then I do add a wee bit of hazelnut of my own to it…I love the flavour of chocolate, spices and nuts that this coffee has…This particular location is conveniently open early, and always brimming with customers eager to enjoy the various drinks and scrumptious treats available here. The staff are always happy to help you start out or finish off your day on the right foot, with whatever coffee drink you might desire. Another update: I came in yet again to get a coffee for my friend Anne and I to start out our day with and as well one of B.A.T.W.’s yummy breakfast wraps… as per usual I was served by the very friendly and helpful staff here, and went on my way....

This was our second visit to this location since we like the area, their goodies, food and really enjoyed the friendly staff. However, during my last visit, I encountered a disappointing experience.

I ordered my usual medium roast drip coffee for $3.90. After receiving my coffee, I noticed a lip mark on my cup, and I wiped it off with a tissue. But after a few sips, the taste seemed off. I decided to switch to a dark roast (which I don't usually order) and approached a staff member wearing a pink check shirt. I asked if I could change to a dark roast, to which she confusingly mentioned it would be lighter. I insisted on the change and was told I had to pay an extra fee since I had already taken a few sips. Another employee intervened, stating there shouldn't be a charge. The staff member (wearing pink) reluctantly made the change, but when I asked for a new cup due to her touching the rim with her fingers, she seemed to be angry and annoyed. Eventually, she changed the cup, but in a rude manner, spilling coffee on the counter in the process.

I was left wondering why the other employee apologized to me while the staff member (wearing pink) did not. We all have bad days or something that could be bothering us or have lots on our mind. I totally understand but still, proper manners are important, and I greatly appreciate the other staff member apologizing on her behalf and hope she’s doing a lot better.
