Bombay Masala Restaurant — Restaurant in Vancouver

I normally don't write reviews and I believe this is my first restaurant review in detail. Here it goes.... I visited with my family this evening at about 7 pm. We chose this place due to its proximity to the UBC campus and it was suggested as one of the few desi options in the area.... It was vacant when we got there which may have been due to the Canucks game this evening. No complaints there, coz we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, which would normally mean getting all the care and attention.... It started off well with us selecting items we wanted from the menu and taking suggestions from the girl who was serving us and she explained what she had to about our order.... We got our drinks and one of the glass that was served had lipstick stains on it and had to be returned... The non veg mixed grill was filled with big and chewy pieces of chicken and fish contrary to what was mentioned on the menu and what was explained to us. Once again, had to highlight it and then the missing items were brought in later saying that there was some confusion in the menu and it had not been updated..... The worst part was the serving tongs kept on the mixed grill had steel wool/scrub stuck to it.... Again had to complain and get them replaced. The prawn vindaloo was oily and had too much food colouring. I believe it was the gravy of this dish or the red chicken from the grills....could have been either one. The mutton biryani, had very chewy and stale looking pieces of meat.... The starters were fine i.e. the spicy momo and papdi chat. I did pack pack the left over food coz we are against wasting food and did leave a 15% tip out of respect for the staff who served us... Not worth the $200plus we spent.....Never going here again..... This is not what Indian food should taste like... Utterly...

Bland to the point of infinity- I placed a pickup order this evening after a gruelling day of exams and work. I work at a dental clinic a few steps from the restaurant and decided to try them as I had a long day and didn't have it in me to cook. I placed a pickup order on UberEats for Kadhai Paneer. The girl who handed me my order was prompt and pleasant. I reached home and first of all the food was drenched in oil that smelled funny. I tasted the $19 dish and instantly felt like I put nothing in my mouth. Now I love to cook and understand that the person who made this certainly put effort into this. But my problem is that when a block of paneer costs $6, you charge 19 for a dish that doesn't even have a whole block of paneer and has absolutely no flavour whatsoever. I tried to heat it with spices and chillies but it was beyond salvation. I am an international student who works extremely hard to make ends meet like every other student. On a day when I just needed to eat Indian food and feel a bit relaxed, I paid 19 dollars for food that tasted like absolutely nothing. Whosoever opened this restaurant must have had a passion for food when they opened it. I am only and only trying to remind you that please remember your passion. And please do better for the price you are selling...

I usually don’t give bad reviews but this place triggered me .

Dinner service : 11 th September 2021 , we reached there around 8 pm. The waitress , the one with the glasses ( hope you see this ) messed up our orders.

In fact she was busy having a conversation with someone( not a customer but an outsider ) than serving us, in fact after multiple requests of asking her for a refill of our water jugs and bring in fresh plates , she went to to say , I Quote “ I’m having a conversation here , will get back in some time “.

After waiting for a couple of minutes, my partner had to actually walk up to the pantry to pick up water jug cause she was so engrossed in her conversation with the outsider.

To the management : I know times are hard during the pandemic, and the whole idea is to keep local business running but staff like this will make you look bad no matter how good the food is.

I don’t mean to be harsh on the waitress but sorry she was blunt and rude and she needs to be trained to...
