While visiting Vancouver in 2018, we stopped at the corner of Water Street & Cambie and the Gastown Steam Clock. After taking some of the usual tourist photos & waiting for the steam to blow the whistle, we found our way to the Black Frog Eatery. Settling in at 1 pm we were warmly welcomed and quickly seated. From our table we had an excellent view of the Steam Clock. I watched tourists posing with the clock as we awaited our order. We weren’t very hungry and decided to share a club sandwich. I’m happy to say that it was made with real meat—none of that sliced processed poultry! The fries were good too, and I washed it all down with a local award-winning Kokanee lager. The ambiance of the Black Frog is definitely that of a pub-style eatery and the decor accentuates that feel. That’s a good thing, and to me, very comforting. Lot’s of wood, brick, and pub-style elements all around. This is absolutely the type of place I’d have lunch at if I’d worked in the area. Their menu has a good selection to satisfy everyone’s tastes. Prices are on par with other restaurants offering similar fare. The type of place that I call “no nonsense and basic good eating”. Service was prompt, efficient, and the staff knew their menu well. When we find our way back to Vancouver, I will certainly plan on coming back.

As a tourist, I wanted to get a quick bite somewhere with Poutine and a nice view. I got this and more! The bartender was so sweet. She was so patient with me and gave me awesome drink recommendations. I ended up with a cider and did try the IPA's. The soup and salad were fresh and delicious. I believe it was a chicken curry soup. I then ordered the Poutine with bacon and mushrooms. Very tasty! I loved how the place was right across the Gastown steam clock. So I was able to hear the steam go off while enjoying my meal and the view. If I ever come back to Vancouver, I will go out of my way to eat here again!

Beer was good, but I asked about charging phone stations in Vancouver and they offered to charge which was nice of them. BUT, then they got mad I charged my phone and gave me attitude throughout afterwards. They could have easily told me no we won't and I would have been fine with that. Left a bad taste in my mouth since I'm from out of town and the beer was really good but it ruined the vibe for me. So I only will give them three stars: five for the beers but three for the random flakiness and arbitrary discontent after they said yes (this never happens on the East Coast when they'll tell you no up front).

Margherita... 0/10 Nachos... 3/10 Wings... 3/10 Yorkies... 10/10

The Margherita was made with pre-made lime Margherita mix... remember that horrid tasting, super acidic stuff? Haven't had a bad Margherita like that in years!! AND this one was $14... Like get out here: I can get a delicious/authentic one next door for that amount.

Nachos were sad...barely any toppings all of our cheese was stuck to the paper... We were laughing with the people around us who noticed us scraping cheese off paper and handing it to eachother... For the price you pay ($17) it was insane what you get. We saw other nachos come out that looked kind of okay?

Wings were another hard no. Maybe should get a 0/10. Super dry and overcooked. We got hot wings but barely spicy/saucy.

Yorkies... The Redeemer. I will actually come back to Black Frog JUST for these and then run far far away for other food/drinks. The roast was good. Yorkshire pudding, tasty and fluffie. And the horseradish sauce was soooo good. I'd definitely get ask for a second side of horseradish to make this a 10/10.

I should mention by the time the food came out if was cold as well. But I actually don't mind that as much as the other stuff that happened.

My last bit was the staff sucked 😂 we had to keep asking for service even though staff were standing around talking. However, another redeemer, one lovely bearded gentlemen behind the bar was amazing always checking in and super quick with orders. He was funny as well! But the other staff seemed to hate life? Ever watched Bar Rescue? This show should be on it 😂

Overall we spent over $150 and it was shit 😂

Come for the Yorkies. Avoid the wings. Bring your own nachos. Only order beer... And tip the one guy who still...

Extremely offensive staff. The way they speak to customers is absolutely unacceptable. The staff member at the door was very young, poorly dressed and extremely unprofessional. Behaving very strangely as we arrived. He was possibly high on cocaine. Very aggressive and not really helpful in trying to find us a server. We didn't even get menus. Had to read the one outside.

If you have a girlfriend you care about, I'd be very careful not to bring her here on a date. One of the men working here was extremely rude to her. I believe both men and women deserve an equal amount of respect.

I spoke to two managers. One of them fluffed off the situation and never called me back. The other made an excuse when I followed up to see what was done about the situation.

She then proceeded to give a very empty, fake sounding apology and essentially told me to go screw myself.

If you want to be treated with respect, then perhaps this isn't the place for you.

They simply don't care because they make so much money off tourists.

I'm very chill and easy going, but nobody speaks to me (or my girlfriend) like that and gets away with it. And now I must share my experience in order to make sure others don't find themselves in the...
