Kay Market — Local services in Vancouver

Going to Safeway on Kingsway is easy but I had been always thinking about the idea of supporting community businesses instead of big boxes. So here we go. Ok, it’s my fault, I was expecting a store like Kim’s Convenience or my childhood grocery store that the owner even knew who my parents were.No, this is not the community store I am looking for. Everything is so expensive, I understand for some stuffs, smaller business have less bargaining power in procurement, but smaller business also has less cost for a lot of things else compared with big boxes (debit only saves you 2.5% already). Expensive is not the end of it, when I took goods to the register, the cashier/owner was like she didn’t see me at all, pressing on her calculator and writing, no greeting, scanned things and then kept pressing on her calculator and writing, not one time eye contact or a single word except the number of how much it is. Yes I do want to support community stores, I’m sure I’ll find one worth supporting, but...

This store Kay Market is one of the old store here in Joyce, Its been years that this store open there door for business. You can buy different kind of fruits like banana,mangoes, local and import. You can also buy fresh meats and dry goods here. They also sell different kind of groceries like can goods from evaporated milk, fresh milk, softdrinks, you can buy here balut,fresh eggs, salted eggs and many more items, korean noodles, filipino foods that you use in cooking like seasonings, and they also sell soap,shampoo and they have remittances to send money all over tye world. Friendly staff but outrageously overpriced products. Just be reasonable, guys!

I live close by and I would really like to support my neighborhood by buying local. But NOT at $2.75 a non-organic standard avocado!

@Owners: Please realize that you're shooting yourself in your own foot. Reason: Loss of trust and support in the local community Charging lower prices leads to more sales leads to more revenue. But also vise versa!
