Going to Safeway on Kingsway is easy but I had been always thinking about the idea of supporting community businesses instead of big boxes. So here we go. Ok, itâs my fault, I was expecting a store like Kimâs Convenience or my childhood grocery store that the owner even knew who my parents were.No, this is not the community store I am looking for. Everything is so expensive, I understand for some stuffs, smaller business have less bargaining power in procurement, but smaller business also has less cost for a lot of things else compared with big boxes (debit only saves you 2.5% already). Expensive is not the end of it, when I took goods to the register, the cashier/owner was like she didnât see me at all, pressing on her calculator and writing, no greeting, scanned things and then kept pressing on her calculator and writing, not one time eye contact or a single word except the number of how much it is. @Owners: Please realize that you're shooting yourself in your own foot. Reason: Loss of trust and support in the local community Charging lower prices leads to more sales leads to more revenue. But also vise versa!
