Read moreWe wanted our visit, for my brother in law's birthday, to be something special, but...
I should have been tipped off, when a few days earlier I'd called to make a reservation and was greeted on the phone with, "Hello." I had to ask, "Is this the restaurant?" In hindsight, a clue of how terrible the service would be...
When we arrived, the person "working" at the front of the house didn't have any knowledge of our reservation, and really didn't care, saying there's lots of tables anyways. Okay, fine. We seated ourselves, then had to ask for water after a few minutes as this "employee" didn't care to serve us at all. Zero charisma, and zero care for clients.
We asked a few questions about the menu and were answered in a very dismissive way. A little too casual.
The food took a long time to come, although the restaurant was not busy. No problem there, as it appeared to be only one person working the kitchen. Appetizers arrived, and main courses took a lot of time after that. One dish, a bowl of olives, for some inexplicable reason, took 1.5 hours to come. The chai we ordered never arrived, and when asked about it the "employee" said she can't make it.
The food, overall, was good. The service was the worst I've ever had, and because of it, not one of our party of five has any interest in coming back. It's unfortunate, as I live close by and was hoping to make this a regular restaurant visit, as the entire menu looks tasty. But, good (even just okay) service is important.
It actually felt like this person "working" the front of the house was trying to sabotage the place. No dishes were picked up from the three tables surrounding us.
This is Vancouver, there are too many other options out there, so likely won't make a return visit. May consider takeout, but while we were there we saw three people that had come in for order walking out empty-handed, and another group leave before even taking a seat, after a brief conversation with...
Read moreI recently visited Celeshmet Restaurant and I'd like to share my thoughts. Right when we walked in, the owner greeted us which made us feel right at home. The place was comfy and it seemed like we were in for a good meal.
Talking with the owner was nice – they made sure we felt valued. This made us look forward to our food even more.
Looking at the menu, there were several dishes that sounded like they'd give us a true taste of Persian food, and the prices made us think we'd get something pretty special, like what you’d expect at a top Persian restaurant in Vancouver.
But when our food came, it wasn’t quite what we thought it would be. The flavors, size of the dishes, and how they were presented on the plates just didn’t match up with the high prices by any means.
Persian food is usually full of great flavors and has a rich history behind it, but we couldn’t really find that in our meals. I know every restaurant has things to work on, and I think if the food matched the prices better, it would make a big difference.
One more thing – the owner asked almost every customer to leave a good review on Google. It was a bit unusual because if customers enjoy their meal, they'll want to say good things without being asked.
I hope the restaurant takes this as helpful feedback because I can see it has the potential to be a cozy...
