Stopped by for a quick bite and appreciated the friendly service. However, the dish didn’t quite match the menu description. I ordered the Crisp Pork Noodle, but the first dish that arrived didn’t seem right. After checking with the waitress, she replaced it with the ‘correct’ one—but it still lacked the crispy pork and green onions mentioned on the menu. While the meal tasted good overall, it didn’t meet expectations set by the description!
Note on my rating scale: Sharing this for transparency, as I recognize that a 3-star review may be misinterpreted as reflecting a mediocre experience. 5 stars – Exceptional: Outstanding food, service, and/or overall experience. Truly worth going out of your way for. (For example, we frequently make the drive from San Antonio to Austin just for Uchi.) 4 stars – Very Good: Exceeds expectations in quality, service, or ambiance. 3 stars – Good: A solid experience that meets expectations. I consider any place with 3 stars or above worthy of a return visit. 2 stars – Disappointing: Falls short in food quality or service. 1 star – Poor: Not...
Read moreI came here on a late evening and it was close to closing time. After getting off the ferry at Horseshoe Bay, I was looking for a bit of comfort food to feed the soul. I have always wanted to go to China to try the real deal so Dan Dan noodle joints comes to mind. The waitress was soft spoken and prompt. She gave me a few suggestions and I went with Dan Dan noodles and Hot and sour wontons soup. I used to be a spice/heat buff but I prefer to taste my food nowadays. I ordered “mild” spice level but the waitress informed me that means there is 0% heat in the dish. I hesitated but went with “spicy” based on her guidance. The food came as pictured in the menu. Everything tasted homemade and fresh. The waitress was right about the spice levels. The “spicy” wasn’t spicy at all. It had floral notes to its spice level which would make sense since this dish is traditionally made with pepper corn. The overall flavor was seasoned perfectly. A healthy dose of peppercorn would make it that much...
Read moreFirst let me say we order from here all the time. Today’s review is a result of getting the least spicy and least flavorful food ever. The mabodofu was soupy and no oil and zero shichuan flavor. The Dan Dan noodles over all tasted ok but we ordered extra spicy and not even a little shichuan numbness on tongue. Was like not spicy noodles. The spicy wonton also lack of sauce and lack of heat. I called the restaurant to let them know. They apologized and said they would tell the kitchen :( that’s it. $70 worth of food from a trusted restaurant and not a tiny bit of concern of serving substandard food. Too bad, we love this place. Not sure we will take a chance again though. Maybe management changed and the owner with original recipes gone??? Yup it was that different. Extremely...
