I'm not gluten-sensitive in any form but I like trying different kinds of food so I wanted to give this place a try. They have a variety of both sweet and savoury baked goods and even sandwiches and slices of gf pizza, plus smoothies. Looks like lots of the items rotate daily. There's also a little "market" section with frozen baked goods, drinks, cookbooks, kitchen accessories, and other household items. It's unfortunate that there's no seating, but Robson Park is just one block over and has some benches and picnic tables, so you can take your goodies there if the weather is decent. I visited in the morning shortly after opening and grabbed a blueberry thyme scone and a golden milkshake (which is really a banana-based smoothie, not an ice cream milkshake). The scone was, in places, a little too caramelized on the outside and a little doughy inside, but nonetheless very tasty. I definitely prefer doughy to dry. Full of juicy blueberries. The scone had a different sort of texture from "regular" scones, more grainy, but this wasn't a bad thing, in fact I really liked the texture! I just wanted to put that out there because I read many reviews that said they couldn't tell the baked goods were gf. I'm sure it depends on what you order. The smoothie was very nice too; I liked that it wasn't sweetened beyond the inherent sweetness of the fruit. It was blended very smoothly. I thought the smoothie was a little expensive at almost $9 (which comes to mind as close to the price of a massive protein-packed Body Energy Club smoothie, which I'm certain are significantly more expensive to make), but the scone was only $4 which is pretty good for a specialty bakery and...
Read moreThe bakery sells fresh baked goods, pizza, in addition to frozen and pantry items, and supplies (including from other vendors). I took out a variety of items and all were good. My favourites were the Salted Rosemary Olive Oil Chocolate Chip cookie ($4.20), Ginger Cookie ($3.95) and Carrot Cake ($5.50). I love savoury sweets and the rosemary was so fragrant and inviting! The ginger cookie was well executed, good sugar top, and a nice size for the price. The carrot cake was well-balanced, moist, and the vanilla bean icing was aesthetically added. The muffin of the day (chocolate coffee cake - $4.25) was just alright, as was the Rainbow Blondie ($5.50). The Lemon Coconut Bar ($4.75) was nice and fruity, but a little crumbly for our preference.
Kind and patient staff, especially for those unsure of their order as first time customers! A lot of others came to take out items while we visited on a Friday morning. They have a small table outside, but no seating inside their storefront. With so many options and rotating flavours of the day, you can try something new every visit. Most of their items are also vegan, nut free and/or dairy free, etc. and are labelled. Would highly recommend and look forward...
Read moreI’m writing a review for the first time today, and it is negative. The product is passable (not worth the money, though), but the customer service a giant 0.
Until today I purchased a bread -- mediocre; hamburger buns -- not bad; brioches -- good; chicken pot pie -- awful; scone -- not great; chicken pizza -- good. Food deserves about 2 stars.
However, the service -- horrible, non-existent service. What am I saying?! Forget about service; not one person has any manners! Acknowledging people in your store is beyond good business. It is polite. I kept going back to the store because I believe in supporting small businesses and local entrepreneurs. Now, I will take that attitude somewhere else. More specifically, I am taking ALL of my business back to Lemonade on Cambie. Their products are far better anyway, in my opinion. Consumerism is like that product, convenience, and service go hand in hand—a holy trinity of buying. And this food is luxury, which is rather distressing if you have a genuine disorder. I am afraid I do not...
