Matchstick Cafes OVER PRICED!!!
I would NEVER EVER GO BACK to any of the Matchstick Café.
I strongly doubt anyone would give more than 2 stars, it seems like family and friends are giving more than 2stars just for the sake of it.
We ordered a cup of Green tea, Coffee and a Croissant, total came up to around $13.50. I was stunned! Croissant $6.30 - Regular size nothing fancy or super-sized Green tea $4.76 - It came in a small tea pot with NO TEA LEAVES (you are paying 5 dollars and still you have no control over the strength of your tea). They strained the tea leaves before serve it, that means you CAN'T go back with you tea leaves in the pot to add extra water, SNEAKY...cutting corners. Coffee was an average Coffee, nothing extra wow about it
I have no problem spending money, but when someone tries to rip you off by cutting corners, I never give my business to them. There are hundreds of Cafes in Vancouver with quality Pastries, Teas and Coffee too choose from that aren't OVER PRICED
I do not want to give any stars, but I have no choice therefore I...
Read moreI'm one of those 'needs coffee in the morning' types. I don't want anything special, I just want a coffee. Sometimes I like going around and sitting and reading a good book and having a coffee. If you're the same, perhaps this isn't the place for you.
I mean, the place was gorgeous, the staff were polite and dressed in the latest American Apparel catalogue and they used iPads instead of cash registers... But all of that comes with a price. I kind of felt foolish asking for "Drip Coffee" as they didn't inform me they only did pour overs. My curiosity piqued when they asked for my name and charged me $3.40. Expensive. Organic, I get it. Or was that for the iPad?
The food looked great but I didn't have any. My pour over was pretty standard affair, though they didn't have any standard fair coffee condiments and I was trapped with strange tasting organic derivatives.
If you're one of the Vancouverites who doesn't buy into the organic Lulu Lemon lifestyles and craves a simple coffee, I'd suggest grabbing...
Read moreGreat addition to Vancouver's coffee scene, and now that they roast, it is one of the things I've been waiting a very long time for in Vancouver: a roaster/retailer that's doing fantastic specialty coffee. Sure we have a few, but not very many new ones opened in the last five years that both are a cafe and a micro-roaster.
I drink a LOT of espresso, and I can honestly say one of the best shots I've had in about six months was from their second variant of "Catalogue", which is their roast for espresso. It was even better in milk.
There's a secret, off menu item you should consider ordering. They don't have a name for it, but I call it the "half-and-half". Say you want a double shot, but half straight, half in a macchiato. It's priced great, and you get a nice single espresso and a tight, well formed macchiato to drink.
Lastly, I LOVE the way they do water. They have an on-demand carbonated water system, and for $0.25, you get a glass; for $0.50, you get a bottle. 100% of the money goes to a charity....
