First impressions: Hello, anyone here? We walked in through the main doors and 2 tables with customers and not a single server in sight .. we wait.
While waiting, I visited the men's washroom, not clean and not filthy, certainly could use better maintenance (and again it's not busy). The scent in the washroom is a but extra as well, could be toned down.
Server and service: There is one server working for the entire restaurant so the experience is not as efficient as it shoudld/could be and no floor manager seen the whole time. To her credit, the one server did her best and was pleasant.
Cleanliness: Upon being seated we were served water and the glasses were rims down on the tray .. the tray she had them on were dirty, bits of food and wet drops of milk .. great, will my water taste like food or milk?
Wait times: For a restaurant not very busy (not even half the tables are occupied), food service was slow at best which leads me to wo der if the kitchen is as thin (staff wise), as the front of the house.
Chicken 69: Way too much salt, to the extent that it takes away from the flavor experience. This is a common theme in Indian restaurants and they don't realize, you can always add more salt and not reduce it once added.
Chicken biryani: I'd rate it a 2.5 out of 5. Again a little heavy on th masala in the meat, this does not need to be the case. Flavor should be about quality, not the quantity.
Lamb curry: Decent, the meat was tender which was nice.
Butter paneer: This was the best item we got. Paneer was cooked perfectly and a nice curry with it.
Not once did our server ask how the food was and at the end offered a dessert item if we leave a Google review. We declined.
There is potential here and perhaps it is just the timing which led to my experience today. I always want to support small business, wish...
Read moreDropped in with friends this night and had one of those quietly perfect meals that makes you plan your next visit before you’ve even settled the bill.
What we ordered
Mango Lassi – icy-cold, naturally sweet, and not overly heavy; a refreshing start that doubles as dessert
Garlic Naan – blistered edges, soft centre, and just the right hit of garlic butter; great for scooping up gravy
Hot-and-Sour Chicken Soup – generous portion with plenty of shredded chicken; tangy enough to wake up the palate on a rainy Vancouver night
Methi Chicken Curry – tender chicken in a fenugreek-fragrant sauce that’s earthy, slightly bitter, and utterly addictive
Masala Tea – steaming, aromatic, and the ideal finish after the spice hit
Service
Our server, Sukhjeet, was a gem—warm, lightning-quick with refills, and happy to adjust spice levels when we asked for “authentically hot.” She even checked back to make sure the fenugreek in the methi curry wasn’t overpowering (it wasn’t—it was perfect).
Atmosphere
Bright murals of Charminar, Bollywood tracks humming softly, and a steady buzz of late-night diners—exactly the lively Hyderabadi vibe you want. Bonus: the kitchen stays open past 2 a.m. (official closing posted as 3:15 a.m.), which is gold for post-movie cravings .
Value
Most mains sit around the $18–$20 mark, breads under $5, and drinks about $5, making it easy to feast without flattening your wallet. Portions are generous; two naans easily fed three of us.
Bottom line
If you’re chasing legit Hyderabadi flavours—especially fenugreek-laced curries—and friendly service well into the wee hours, Hyderabad Haveli is your spot. Ask for Sukhjeet, order the methi chicken with extra heat, and save room for that mango lassi. You’ll thank yourself on the...
Read moreWe visited Hyderabadi Haveli around 11 PM last week and honestly, the food really hit the spot. I’m a Chicken 65 person, and most places in Vancouver just serve fried chicken with curry leaves but this one was authentic street-style and packed with flavour however the portion was disappointing.
We also had the Hyderabadi Mutton with garlic naan which super tasty, rich, and thankfully not sweet (finally!). It’s one of the best mutton curries I’ve had here, but again, the portion size was very less for $17. The garlic naan was fresh and hot.
Unfortunately, their Chicken Dum Biryani was sold out ( disappointed) , so we tried the Vijayawada Biryani instead. It came with raita and salan, looked great, and tasted really nice but the top layer of rice was a bit undercooked and could it feel it whole eating. Portion wise, it was good for two people. Just a small suggestion to maybe serve it on a plate or tray for Biryani so the rice doesn’t spill all over the table
My husband ordered his usual sweet & salty fresh lime soda, and it ended up being the most refreshing drink we’ve had in a long time perfectly balanced and chilled!
Only thing that could be improved was the bathroom… it needed to be cleaner.
Special thanks to Harman for the great service and warm attitude
Overall, a great late night food and honestly felt a real Hyderabadi touch. Would definitely go back, just hope they increase the...
