I normally don't write a review right away unless the establishment has made an impact either positive or negative (negative usually immediately so I don't forget as I have a busy schedule) this one has warranted a 5 star one after just finishing the meal.
Much like some of the other reviews written about this place, it holds true. If you're looking for a mom and pop cafe, this is it. It's definitely, no frills, looks like you're sitting in a much larger dining area of your older parents/grandparents place. Unassuming, cozy...
My husband and I came here after a medical appointment nearby and just happened to walk by their sandwich board at the corner of Heather and Broadway. I don't know how we have missed coming here before as we come here weekly, and there aren't much for late morning (before lunch hour rush) restaurants besides the well known ones like Mcdonald's, A&W, Tim Horton's, Donair Dude, Starbucks etc.
Sandwich board advertised as Korean cafe. We thought it would be a nice change from going to the usual.
Walked in, saw they had all day breakfast (except from noon to 1pm, as it's just a husband and wife team and they have a lot of regular customers that work at the medical buildings nearby and the hospital) they have Korean classics, classic sandwich/wraps and also Korean fusion wraps/sandwiches. They also offer coffee, lattes and an assortment of teas including Korean red ginseng tea.
We ordered BLT on sourdough, bulgogi panini lunch special with clam chowder (today's choice was that or tomato vegetable soup) Korean red ginseng tea and a large vanilla latte (large comes with 3 shots of espresso!)
All were delicious and tasty. The latte isn't bright or acidic as some cafes offer latte these days, ginseng tea is strong like how I've had it in Korea. The food is spot on and it is authentic Korean taste like the bulgogi I've had in Seoul. My husband said the BLT was spot on like how when you crave something and it tastes exactly as how you wanted it.
I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for a good home cooked meal, good coffee with a good price considering you're in the medical/office building area. They serve a lot of local workers from the time I've sat down to order/eat. If you're working nearby, I would call in to place your order ahead for pickup. Bringing your own cup/mug is...
Read moreJust had the most bizarre experience at this café. Early morning around 8:30 AM I’m looking for a cuppa coffee and may be a little breakfast. I have my own personal cup with me. On one corner is a well-known coffee chain that makes good coffee and has good baked goods. but just up the street I noticed this independent little coffee shop called the K Café. only one other person is in there so that’s a little disquieting, but I do like to support independent businesses so I thought I would support them. I really wasn’t expecting a decent cup of coffee, but I thought a little sacrifice to support an independent business as a good idea. so I order my coffee in my personal cup. The pleasant quiet and rather timid woman cashier asked me if it’s to go. I was a bit puzzled because clearly it’s Go. It’s my own personal cup. She gives me my coffee and I have a few minutes and I thought I would check my emails on my phone. although the place is a little rundown and the seats are not too inviting I thought I would stay and check my emails here in large part because I wanted to support the business. My thinking was if there’s a body sitting in here maybe other potential customers will come in. That was honestly my thinking. Perhaps misplaced. But well motivated. As soon as I pull out the chair to sit down, the male Korean owner says to me rather abruptly “Go” and waves his hand as if to usher me out the door. I was a bit shocked that I said that I was just going to have coffee. He said you ordered a coffee to go. I was still pretty confused. I said why can’t I just sit here for a few minutes. He said no “That’s my policy”. I said him in a polite way I’m a bit surprised. I thought I was doing him a favour by sitting here and attracting business. So I left. And there was still only one other person sitting in the restaurant. Otherwise completely empty. A passerby might think it was not even open. So I was left with a thought that here is a angry old man used to being the patriarch and wants to bully for bully sake, even though it’s against his own business interests. and my well intentioned “sacrifice“ to go to this little side café backfired on me. Although I have to say the coffee, the lady made me was...
Read moreOrdered the bibimbap here and was really pleased with the quality of the food as well as the reasonable price. It's a no-frills place serving simple food, and the lady at the counter was quiet, but seemed genuinely friendly. I couldn't figure out why this place doesn't have a higher rating.
Looks like the common theme is that there are a number of people who are really unhappy that they are asked to leave when they order an item "to go" and try to consume it in the cafe. Some wonder if it's discrimination, others think the owners are just mean.
If you've ever been to Korea, you might know that you simply cannot order food or drinks for takeout at a cafe and then stay. It's considered wasteful to use a disposable cup or container if you're just going to stay at the cafe and then throw your cup in their trash. Cafes can be fined for generating too much to-go cup waste.
And yeah, this is Canada, not Korea...but hey, attempts to curb unnecessary waste are not a bad thing, and I don't think asking to-go customers to leave warrants fewer stars. Perhaps they deserve the full five for...
