Comfortable little diner serving Canadian fare. Not the hole-in-the-wall, greasy spoon that, for some reason, I was expecting, but clean and cozy, with walls adorned with photos of, what I assume to be, the proprietor's family...
Service was efficient and friendly, but don't recall that there was any follow-up/check-in after the food was served...a minor detail.
The food (a solid 3.5 but, unfortunately, no half-star ratings, so it's rated as a 3)
My wife ordered a Denver Omelette, which had two kinds of cheese: aged Cheddar and Jack, together with ham, onion and peppers, served with 2 slices of a nice toasted sourdough bread, and homemade hash browns. Omelette was not too runny, nor over-cooked, and not heavy-handed with salt...so no complaints. Wife enjoyed the sourdough toast, which is surprising, as she is rather particular about her sourdough (that being said, she is going through withdrawals, as the bakery, where she religiously used to frequent to get her sourdough bread fix, has, very recently, closed 🥺). Hash browns, fried with some onions (green and red) and another fresh herb, rosemary perhaps, brought me back to childhood, as my parents/uncle used to prepare their hash browns in a very similar manner, although, in my humble opinion, it could have done with a bit more time of the griddle, as my preference is to have them more crispy...but, the flavours and taste were on point.
I ordered the Eggs Benedict, 2 poached eggs served on an English muffin, with ham, topped with Hollandaise sauce, and a side of homemade hash browns. It is one of my go-to, and favourite, breakfast dishes...cannot resist a dish which includes an English muffin, which provides a crispy, buttery base, with a Canadian bacon or ham, to add a salty, savory flavor, with a poached egg, to add a rich, creamy texture, tied together with the tangy, buttery-flavoured, gorgeous yellow hollandaise sauce...the eggs were poached perfectly, the ham was more luncheon meat style, but still tasty, but the unexpected colour of the Hollandaise was surprising...as well as the texture, a bit too runny. The sauce was also, in my humble opinion, a bit too tangy, but still, overall, an enjoyable dish. I don't believe I would re-order, though.
Verdict: This is definitely worth a return visit to try some of the...
Read moreIt was our first time to come here for brunch. Why did we not come here in the past?! Here is my review:
Customer Service: Servers were friendly and very attentive to all customers and made sure they provided excellent customer service.
Food and Presentation: We ordered 2.2.2.2 breakfast and the breakfast burrito. The 2.2.2.2 breakfast includes two eggs, two bacons, two sausages, two pancakes and some crispy potatoes. The portion was big and the presentation and quality were good!!! The pancakes were very fluffy that they were better than ones that I had at other brunch places. When I had the first bite of the burrito, the flour tortilla was soft that it was so different from others. Normally the tortilla was very thick and dry, but this one was about right! The eggs and other ingredients inside cooked well that the sausage or meat were not over cooked. When I had the first bite, everything melted in my mouth. It was sooo goood!! The fruit skewer tasted delicious as well! The blueberry was big and sweet! Watermelon was very sweet as well!! We also ordered a matcha latte. The restaurant put a lot of matcha powder to the latte, so the matcha latte had a strong matcha flavour that tasted excellent! It was better than the one at Starbucks or other coffee shops.
Pricing: 2.2.2.2 breakfast cost $11.95 and the breakfast burrito cost $12.95. Pricing was reasonable with such a good quality of food and great customer service.
Parking: Street parking or if you take a bus, there is a bus stop right in front of the restaurant.
As you can see, do you think that I will come back for breakfast or brunch??? You can tell the answer...
Read moreWas last here about a year ago. From then to now, the quality has taken a nosedive.
Server dropped food on one of our party and instead of offering to clean it or replacing the item, they just left it on the ground. Didn’t even get an apology.
They forgot my order of pancakes even though they brought out the side that came with it. To be clear the pancake order came with a side of hash and bacon. I got ONLY the hash and bacon but NO pancakes. Only when we asked them about the missing item, is when they started cooking the pancakes so clearly they forgot about them?
When they did bring out my order of pancakes, they were burnt. Had to send them back. Eventually I just ate some of my wife’s pancakes (which were also partly burnt) and just gave up on them entirely.
They still tried to charge me for the pancakes which we also had to dispute. One of our party tried to offer some feedback to the server and the attitude we got just made us want to get out of there as quickly as possible. We even forgot that they used to give out butter tarts after every meal (we didn’t get any). That’s how let down we were.
All in all it was an awful experience and nothing like the last time we came. Maybe running a restaurant in Vancouver has become a lot tougher in recent times but as a restaurant, you can at least try to ensure your clients receive a certain standard of service. That will go a long way to making your customers more understanding of the things you’re going through. But service like this shows a clear lack of care and I won’t be surprised if the business closes down soon if they continue this way.
Never...
