Food, service and atmosphere was terrible. I can blame the atmos as being partly affected by the dreary Vancouver weather last night. We stopped in for a brew and dinner after the car show on March 23, 2016 and we both were sold on the lamb dip on a pretzel bun by the manager, our server was in training. "Delicious, succulent lamb with carmelized onion" mmm, sounded yummy! My son opted for the Irish Poutine and I regular fries as a side. Our drink orders were taken but never appeared. The manager finally came over and said that the order was somewhere out in the ether and blamed it on their computer system.... in 2016? Ahh, dinner finally arrived only to be followed by the bus boy (aspiring server?) asking if we wanted fresh ground pepper? Where was our server? Both pretzel bun's were burned, there was little to no lamb on the sandwiches and whatever meat there was on the bun tasted like it had come from a old and malnourished animal. The caramelized onion's had a raw texture, or was it cartilage from the poor lamb? My son's Poutine had barely any cheese in it, should have known better and stuck to Annie's in New Westminster. I understand that the server was new but I personally would have turned back and had couple of fresh sandwiches made up. The bland and absent minded server never did return to ask how our meal was, finally the manager, who became our server, asked how the half eaten meal was and I told her that it wasn't very good. She did ask if we wanted new ones but you just don't do that these days in some pubs these days if you know what I mean. They did take 50% off my sandwich which surprised me, it was fair given that I ate my meal after all... but I realized you you will eat just about anything when you are hungry. As for the server, I don't know, maybe she was off or jet lagged from a 14 hour flight but she was really bad, she had the personality of a turnip. I think the pub is a great place if you are of legal drinking age out for a night with your buddies with the intent of getting drunk but I cannot see the pub being a hit in Vancouver for any other reason at this time. Mr. Mahony and his son's should spend a little more time in their establishment or have better representation for their pub. The busy tourist season is coming and I might go back to see if there are any improvements when the weather is better, it's in a great location. At the moment, this Irish pub stands out as being one of the worst I have ever been to. 3 stars subtracted... and I am...
Read moreWow. Quite a disappointment this time around.
I wish I had checked out these reviews before eating this time because there is a sudden and rather discernible downward trend in reviews (perhaps associated with the new management?) that is really talking to me now. I'll join the chorus, folks.
I had the chop salad. At first glance it looked appealing enough. Among the miscellaneous ingredients added around the sides of the lettuce that was piled up in the middle was a smallish tomato, cut in half.
I ate the first half of the tomato and ewww. It was super soft and tasted very unappealing. Then I looked at the second half and noticed that the seeds were covered with grey mold.
I stopped eating my salad and discretely advised my server. She looked at my plate and responded "oh my" taking my plate away. I actually expected a manager to come and apologize but nobody showed.
Well the bill eventually showed (different server because the other one was so busy?) and I thought maybe I would get 1/2 off for my entree --- but nope, full price for the meal.
Later that evening I emailed the manager about my experience (to include a photo of the moldy tomato) and it is now days later and there has been no response. There is every appearance that they simply don't care about my unfortunate dining experience.
This used to be a great place to eat with great food. But folks, based on my experience, as well as some of the other reviews from these last few weeks, this place appears to perhaps be taking a real tumble in terms of service, management and food quality.
I'd advise proceeding with caution. We won't be...
Read moreMahony's Tavern is one of the worst restaurants i've ever been to. It seems that it is under new ownership as of May 2025 and the business no longer cares about their customers and giving them a good experience.
When i arrived at the restaurant, i was told to wait 10 minutes even though it was almost completely empty because it was late evening on a Tuesday. After being seated, it took 20 minutes for the waitress to come and take our drink orders. She did not come back to check on us or ask if we were ready to order food for a whole hour. We then realized she was sitting at the bar drinking alcohol and playing on her phone. We were shocked. We had to get up and approach her and ask if we can order food. We ended up ordering only a couple dishes because our expectations were very low by now. We were then given cups with lipstick stains on them and plates with food stains on them (photos attached). When we told the waitress about it, she seemed annoyed that we were asking her to do her job because it was interrupting her time drinking at the bar and socializing with the other employees which is what she was doing the whole time.
Not only was the customer service horrible, the food was flavourless and the drinks were very watered down.
I ended up sending them an email to share my experience and they didn't even care to respond. This business does not care about their customers at all. Save your time and money and go to any other restaurant that has good food and...
