While strolling along the Canada place waterfront downtown on Sunday 09/25/22 I happened to come across the Golden Horn Turkish bakery and was happily surprised by seeing this cafe.
I entered with my family and made way to the counter and was ignored while the employee or owner (not sure) rudely ignored me physically and even verbally.
I said hi while waiting and he ignored me. It seemed as though he was busy with something and did not care to even acknowledge my presence or any of the other customers who came after me. He had a scowl on his face as if he was disgusted with the customers coming in.
I am a huge fan of Turkish coffee and drink it regularly and for this reason I decided to stay and order it.
When he finally came over I asked about a savoury bread pastry in the display and asked him what was in it and he responded rudely with “look at the menu” which was on a board above the counter.
I still ordered two baklava and two Turkish coffees and paid 18 dollars. He then told me to wait and he would let me know when it was ready.
After what seemed to be about 5 to 8 minutes I turned and saw my order sitting atop the display counter. He didn’t even let me know it was ready.
I went up and asked if it was mine and he didn’t acknowledge me. So I took it and sat.
Quite frankly I will not be coming back here and don’t recommend anyone else to either.
The service is absolutely garbage and the restaurants tables were dirty and didn’t seem like they had been cleaned for a while.
The coffee is mediocre and maybe would have tasted better if the service wasn’t so horrible.
Spend your money somewhere where they take pride in their brand and their reputation instead.

Read moreI recently visited here on a chilly day and wanted to share my experience. While there were positive aspects, there were also some areas that could enhance the overall visit.
The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, providing a warm respite from the cold weather. I ordered a Turkish coffee latte, a vanilla latte, kunafa, and baklavas. The pastries were well-cooked, but I noticed a distinct oily taste, which detracted a bit from the overall enjoyment. Perhaps a slight adjustment in preparation could balance the flavors more effectively.
On a positive note, both coffee selections were delightful. The Turkish coffee latte and vanilla latte were rich, flavorful, and provided a comforting warmth on the cold day. The quality of the coffee was undoubtedly a highlight of the visit.
The customer service was commendable. The staff was attentive and friendly, contributing to a pleasant overall experience.
In summary, here, offers a cozy atmosphere and delicious coffee, but the oily taste in the pastries was a notable drawback. With a minor adjustment in the preparation of certain items, this café could elevate the overall dining experience. I appreciate the positive aspects of my visit and believe there is potential for further...
Read moreThis bakery cafe is located in a place where I'd expect to find a questionable tourist trap and the look of it is pretty utilitarian, but wow the food was legit! I got a Mediterranean borek, a slice of kadayif, and an ayran. The borek was surprisingly substantial - they used a lot of filling and it was quite dense. Super tasty, and I liked the contrast of the densely packed filling with the flaky pastry. Probably one of the best savoury pastries I've ever eaten! They have a few different vegetarian variations of borek and now I want to try them all. I also enjoyed the kadayif even more than I expected to. The shredded fillo was still flaky and fluffy which showed it must have been pretty fresh. It wasn't sickly sweet or sticky as Middle Eastern desserts of lower quality can often be. And the ayran was great! The cup it was served in didn't look big, but it was thick and strong, so it ended up being plenty. Again, there's not much atmosphere to speak of inside the shop, but the location is prime and you can get a great view of the harbour if you sit outside. The two guys working were really nice. And I also really appreciate that they have reusable tableware for dine-in, which I wasn't expecting given how small...
