If counting calories is your thing, let me begin by saying you might want to skip reading this review—and possibly this entire pastry shop. But if you're ready to cash in those calories for a one-way ticket to Greek dessert paradise, then welcome to "Serano," where the motto seems to be: why count calories when you can count layers of phyllo?
Entering the shop, you're immediately enveloped by a buttery, sweet aroma that promises to leave you a few pounds heavier and a great deal happier. They say laughter adds years to your life; I say Serano adds sweetness—and possibly love handles, but let’s not nitpick.
The bougatsa here is flakier than my aunt's tales of her time in Mykonos, while the baklava is so richly layered, it could be considered a divine Greek architectural marvel. As for the galaktoboureko, it’s creamier than a romantic ballad. And don't even get me started on the kataifi—a tangle of sheer delight that's worth unraveling! Try it warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top at home ...
Each dessert must accompanied by a robust Greek coffee served with a wink and a nudge, almost as if the barista is in on the conspiracy to make you an addict. And trust me, you'll be back—bouncing between guilt and glee with every bite.
Sure, you could go somewhere else to sip green juices and count carrot sticks, but why waste the opportunity to indulge in Greek mythology’s oldest tradition: eating like the gods? Serano is not just a place for desserts; it’s an invitation to throw caution—and your calorie counting app—to the wind! Enjoy at your own delicious risk. I have, for more than thirty...
Read moreThis bakery is a popular spot for Greek pastries in the area. Every time I pass by, it’s always packed with people. However, I’ve avoided trying it for years because my first experience with Greek desserts left me thinking they were overly sweet. Today, while shopping nearby, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to take a look inside. To my surprise, they offer an impressive variety of baked goods. The shop itself is small but bright and simple, with prices significantly lower than other places, especially for their cookies. I carefully browsed through their selection and eventually chose a freshly baked SPANAKORITA .It looked substantial, and after just a few bites, I ended up eating the whole thing—it was simply delicious! The flaky crust was incredibly crispy, and the filling was perfectly balanced, not too salty. I enjoyed it so much that I went back to buy two more for my friends, who also loved them. I think I’ll be coming back often to try more of their offerings—especially...
Read moreIn a city where prices have gone crazy Serano still represents incredibly good value. You get friendly service, yummy treats and all for a lot less than you would expect to pay. We just went there this morning to pick up my favourite Greek cookies Koulourakia (warning it’s hard to eat just one!!!) and decided to grab some coffees and treats and sit outside since the sun was shining. They only have one or two patio tables but still it’s so nice on a beautiful day. So 2 cold cappuccinos and 3 treats cost only $15! Seriously that’s great value for anywhere but particularly Vancouver. We love their Baklava, Bougatsa and Kok three traditional Greek desserts. They also have pieces of cakes and yummy cookies (I love the peanut butter cookie) so it’s very kid friendly. Their Spanakopita and Tiropita (like Spanakopita but only made with cheese no spinach) are also so good. Highly recommend you stop by if like me you...
