Came back to Small Victory today, and I’m bumping up my rating from 4 to 5 stars! The drink was excellent, the croissant was as phenomenal as ever, and the cookies were soft and chewy this time—much better than before when they were random in terms of chewiness.

The consistency in quality and improvement lately in the little details really impressed me. Add to that the friendly and welcoming staff, and I honestly have no reason not to return. It’s always a pleasure coming here! ——————————————————————————— Small Victory on W 6th is one of my go-to cafes, especially after being a long-time fan of their Granville location. My favorites here are always the cookies (chocolate, pistachio, peanut, and everything else), which I genuinely think are one of the BEST, and their croissants (peach croissant, mini croissant, pan de chocolat, pistachio croissant, almond croissant), donut croissants, are all top-notch too. They’re not too sweet, texture and flavour is well balanced, and most of the time great. If it’s not, they’d be happy to take it back and exchange it for you. This happened once but long time ago when the vegan chocolate cookie was so hard, as most of their cookies here are chewy. Ever since I went back, I never had any negative comments about the cookies anymore.

When it comes to coffee, their cortado, flat white, and brewed options never disappoint.

However, I’m not too keen on their mochas (which is average yet not the best) so as the ice chocolate drink which the kids would always love to order which is bland. The pumpkin spice latte, which is their seasonal drink has lots of powdery granules that settle at the bottom which is not very settling for the throat—therefore is not something I’d recommend. So much powder going on even on the drink. Also, I’m not a fan of the sandwiches, which I feel is too overpriced, and it wasn’t the best I’ve had too. I occasionally still would grab one for convenience just like today as it still fills my need for food lol. For the value, I’d compare them with Breka’s sandwiches which is so much better.

I ended up spending over $80 for us 2 adults and 2 kids with some light food and drinks. I had a sandwich and pumpkin spice, boys had packs of cookies and chocolate drink each, plus a mocha and chicken pot pie for my wife. Chicken pot pie was a good choice by the way. But yahhh… $80+ was more than what I thought I’d be spending for this type of food. This would have been a meal elsewhere.

Despite a few misses, I’d still rate Small Victory four stars. Minus one star for the value for money. I just had much comments on food and drinks as they also have wider variety of food options than the other places which for me is still a good thing so I wouldn’t rate it down judging on my negative comments above as there are comfort foods that I think would deserve a 5*. It’s almost impossible to get the best foods all in one place, but when it comes to ambiance, cookies, and coffee, it’s spot on. It’s still one of the best cafes in Vancouver. It’s one of my top 5 cafes in Vancouver for sure. So you just have to pick the right stuff for your palette and appetite.

I’ll definitely keep...

My first visit to Small Victories and it made me miss having a good bakery where we live! The atmosphere and display was incredible. My hubby and I had two breakfast sandwiches, vegetarian and vegan. Both were good but the croissant on the vegetarian was the stand out! So buttery and flakey. We both had lattes - iced and hot, made well. Shared a biscoff cheesecake which was also good. BUT our take home treat was THE BEST!! The chocolate almond croissant- again buttery and flakey with amazing chocolate inside and a beautiful and yummy almond top! Trying to figure out now who can bring me some up from Vancouver to enjoy again!

EDIT/ADDITIONAL ENTRY: I won’t change my star rating because the first in person experience was still great and memorable. But I am quite disappointed in my second experience. I had a friend who was coming home for the holidays and agreed to bring me some SV baked goods on her 10 hour drive. I called approx a week in advance to order. I asked for four almond croissants and four chocolate almond croissants after reviewing the menu online. There wasn’t photos online but I knew we loved the chocolate almond so figured we would try the regular almond too. I repeated my order twice and confirmed clearly that I wanted the chocolate almond croissants because I saw online they had just plain chocolate croissants too and I didn’t want any confusion. The lady took my order but seemed in a rush/busy. I called back shortly after my first call to change the pick up time and again confirmed what I had ordered. The day comes for my friend to pick up, she arrives and is told there is no order and that I likely called the wrong location. As they began packing someone had found my order and it got packaged up (not visible to my friend unfortunately). The goodies made their big road trip and unfortunately my fear of a mix up of croissants came true. I got four almond croissants (which were good) and four just plain chocolate croissants that I didn’t want… all the trouble to enjoy the chocolate almond croissant again and I didn’t get to. Hopefully we will be in Vancouver one day again so I can get my hands on the chocolate almond...

If you’re in the mood for a coffee shop experience that checks all the boxes, Small Victory Cafe is the place to be. With a massive variety of drinks—from your classic espresso and lattes to unique, seasonal specials and iced concoctions—there’s something for every type of coffee lover. They even offer a selection of non-coffee beverages like fresh teas, smoothies, and matcha drinks, ensuring everyone finds something to sip on.

The pastries are equally impressive. Freshly baked daily, they range from decadent chocolate croissants to light, airy scones, perfect for pairing with your coffee. Each bite feels like it’s crafted with care, and the rotating selection keeps things exciting. It’s clear that quality and variety are top priorities here.

The space itself is spacious, bright, and inviting. Large windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the room, creating a warm, open atmosphere that’s ideal for either working or relaxing. The modern yet cozy décor, with its comfy seating and clean lines, creates an environment that’s both stylish and comfortable.

Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, Small Victory Bakery offers a welcoming vibe, a stellar drink menu, and an unbeatable selection of pastries. It’s a perfect spot for those who want a little more than just a cup of coffee....

Just opened early October, this popular plaxe is growing fast! With the open concept, bright, high ceiling & slick interior design, its vibrant atmophere gives you an energetic feel to stsrt off your day. Not really good for someone looking for a sip of coffee in a quiet setting. This place doesn't have too many tables (12 tables total), it would not be ideal for any group more than 6. Most tables are for 2 & 4 people. The staff was friendly & place is quite clean. The soy latte is always good at SV, just like any other location, and the almond croissant is just sweet enough, soft inside, to make it a good combo with coffee. I really never bothered try anything here other than coffee, croissant & cakes, which are all consistently good. Even though some menus seem overpriced, I understand it is inevitable, considering that its in one of the prime location aside from Vancouver downtown. I would strongly recommend this place if you happen to walk nearby, as it is a bit of a hassle to find parking around here, especially on a weekday.
