I’ve been to Uma Sushi for a couple of times since It’s soft opening in December. I rarely commented any restaurants at any review sites but this place is worth to take some minutes to recommend. For the lunch menu, I very liked their chicken teriyaki and Sushi donut. The chicken teriyaki is perfectly seared. You could taste the crispy skin and juicy meat with a very well-balanced sauce which is the best teriyaki chicken in town. Sushi donut is pretty nice as they have different flavours and each came out to be very impressive. Despite their lovely shape which could be shared at instagram, I noticed they put some crab meat inside the “donut” shaped Sushi rice which enriches the flavours.

The restaurant’s dinner menu offers medium-high end food in a very very reasonable price. I particularly liked the foie gras nigiris as they were “aburi-ed” by the chef right after you ordered. The foie gras melted in your mouth immediately with room temperature Sushi rice which reduces the greasiness but only keeps the foie gras fragrance. A must try!!! Their sashimi is very fresh and the deluxe sashimi plate has different kinds of sashimi. I am not a big fan of sashimi but surprisingly found that they not too fishy and very fresh. I am also crazy about their different rolls especially the Snow White roll.

This little gem is definitely worth to try if you visit Cambie area. The chef is very talented and knows what he is doing. Will definitely come at a...

I saw so many good reviews about this sushi place, therefore I go and try.

The signature dish is sushi donut which is so creative, of course the taste is so delicious with aburi chopped scallop on top of sushi rice.

The Kaisen Donburi (Seafood rice bowl) which is fresh and yummy, I love it so much. They have selected the daily seafood to make it unique, no regards.

Service is also no complaints, I really enjoy this kind of small cozy restaurant. I will be back to try their sushi sooner or later.

The second time I come again is a week later. This time I order a Tuna Tataki which is well balance with their ponzu sauce, and the Himawari Donburi which is fresh and tasty but the chef forget to put the amaebi on the rice, the service is still fantastic.

Finally, I come for their sushi, I order a deluxe sushi and some side sushi, I mention to the waitress about the Himawari without the amaebi, and she just give me back the amaebi sushi for compensation.

The sushi is very tidy and tiny which is good for one bite size.

The special sushi that I ordered is Foie Gras Nigiri, the texture which is perfect with a touch of blowtorch, bring out the taste so much.

The Hokkaido Uni Nigiri is so sweet and blend into your mouth completely. The price of these 2 pieces sushi is almost $20.00 but is worth of what you get.

Highly recommend even though the cost is higher than the others. The waitress is always smiling even with...

We wanted to eat at an authentic Japanese restaurant, and were hoping to try one that we hadn't already tried before. After a bit of searching on Google, my husband chose Uma Sushi . It's a small and quiet restaurant, only about half a block away from the busyness of Cambie St. With a 4.5 star rating on Google, it sounded like a very promising restaurant so we were very much looking forward to this meal.

Ingredients were fresh and everything was nicely prepared; however, given the high ratings this place has received, we were honestly a bit disappointed with this place. While we couldn't really find fault with the food, we just weren't blown away by it either.

Their sushi donuts were visually stunning but when it came to eating them, they tasted quite ordinary and handling them was a bit of a challenge. Just my own personal opinion: Perhaps air frying them into Yaki sushi donuts might have made them easier to handle and given them a bit more flavor as well?

Aburi Sushi was good but we felt that we'd actually had better Aburi elsewhere, at restaurants with lower ratings.

Sushi California and Sushi Bang are glaring examples of how depressing and weak the Japanese food game is for Cambie Village. With the addition of Uma Sushi located right across Westcoast Poke, we now have a fighting chance! Biggest wins for this place are super fresh and high quality ingredients, on-point preparations(even for rice which was fantastic) and intricate presentation. The space itself is also warm and modern with kitchen space wide-open for all the patrons to view. Uma Sushi is also run by Japanese folks which is an automatic plus for me. Cons are small portions for individual items,(but for lunch combo number of items adds up to provide adequate portion size for the meal) and this could also be viewed as a plus for some but cooking techniques are more modern than traditional. Tempuras are not deep fried but "air fried" using an impressive looking commercial-grade gadget and everything has a bit of an aburi taste. Gyu Don, which was the special for the day, did not resemble any form of traditional Gyu Don at all but it was pretty much pan fried Korean Bulgogi which was quite weird to me. Everything tasted good but as a fan of traditional Japanese cooking, I was not 100% sold. Still, Uma Sushi is MILES ahead of other "faux" Sushi place in the vicinity so it will definitely become one of my regular lunch spots.
