Steam Teahouse & Cafe is by far my favourite cafe, I'm there at least every second day, since I work nearby to it; but, honestly, even if I didn't work nearby, I would probably still frequent the cafe, since I've come to like it so much over the past 1.25 years since I discovered it. Fully five stars all the way for this place, in every category. For instance, besides having an excellent quality and range of beverages, Steam has a trendy/artistic feel to it, a great atmosphere, and as an emerging writer and actor, I have always really felt at home there. Because their personnel's people skills are so good, I've additionally become friends with the owner and the staff, and so I wrote them this poem of appreciation:
TEA IN EACH N EVERY SEASON
Mercury Rhone
Steam is the exhaled breath from expedited daydreams: about a small n secret corner parlour to rest n pause for an hour.
I’m a permanent regular here cause cafes just don’t get any better. About places I like I’m very particular. And I’ve been to them all but still Steam I prefer. Considering that this beverage atelier exists on a different level of coffee mug comfort it’s Steam my sensibilities want.
Independent company logos on sleeves around takeout cups please. I want the graphic from this sweet zarf on a chocolate hued T shirt sized just right for me: I swear I’ll wear that garment right out.
And more notes of praise to decorate the cosmic latte coloured wall that asserts hey I think I like certain hot drinks. Enough to partake of them daily. I do you see: it’s a socially healthy habit I pursue. Since I only work two blocks away lucky me.
The folks at the office thank me kindly when I bring them back on cardboard carrier chariot the nicest liquid treats from Steam’s umber brown wooden counter.
Because the products of the West 43rd Avenue n East Boulevard shop are those the community’s customers continue to consume. When they need to feel welcome and return to the world all palate renewed.
So sit here meditating urban patrons n drink tea in each n every season. Until the entire city seems calm n friendly much like a café does.
On a day in May I came across a one room tea boutique born at the bottom of a building w imposing stone architecture I admire. And I never left again I basically live here okay it’s true.
Yes it’s a tiny commercial tea chest in the best possible location for chic popularity: tea steam salon that it is. Coffee couturier. I feel quite fancy when I’m there so I’m never far away.
But I also sense I’m like a friend n neighbour: every single staff member remembers my name n my drink of choice. Steam’s team is the very picture of courtesy.
Sales in a steady stream are ushered into Steam by the wind and then the sun when they agree. The coffee bar’s clients must be sure to order lots of brewed mocha elixir if the sainted steeped tea is not enough to soothe the week’s fatigue.
And also on offer hot chocolate with heart shaped vapour on top. My heated favourite when the afternoon is an effort. Schedules can be arduous but a drop of peace on the clock is a joyous oasis.
Because while infinity’s business is an unstoppable train it can still always be seen: floating up from the engine of absolutely everyone’s continuum is steam.

Read moreI had a disappointing experience at Steam TeaHouse today. When asked whether I was dining in or taking out, I explicitly pointed to an outside table and said I would sit there, so the barista decided for me and gave me a takeout cup.
As I was peacefully enjoying my drink and watching a show on my phone eating snacks I got from the neighborhood, a family with a baby arrived. While there were seats available at the bar inside and inside tables are taken by other customers, they weren’t sufficient to accommodate the family and their baby cart. Two baristas then came out and asked if I could leave the table. I was confused, and when I asked why, one of them started talking about “We want to make sure everyone has a good experience but since you had ordered takeout… there was a family with a baby, so…” and made it sound i don’t deserve a table because I hold a takeout cup.
The way they approached me made me feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome that leaving felt like the only option. I ended up throwing away my drink after just a few sips because I couldn’t stop thinking about why I was excluded from the "everyone" who was supposed to have a good experience there.
I left feeling humiliated and will not be returning. I will not make any comment on the drink now that i’m biased by...
Read moreI am so happy this place opened in Kerrisdale!
First of all, the quality of the coffee & tea is amazing ! If you are a matcha lover like me , here is your place for a hand-crafted matcha shot, and if you have a bit more time , sit there & enjoy a cup of MatchaCano , you won’t be disappointed.
Secondly, the staffs are very caring & knowledgeable, they always put customer’s needs first. When I mentioned that most cafes offer Oat milk with lots of gums I can’t digest; so they have brought in the oat milk which has only 4 ingredients, no gums, no fillers, no vegetable oils. I was so touched they would go that far for their customers.
Thirdly, this is a cozy place, not only relaxing and but also uplifting. I have since brought many of my girlfriends there , guess what , every single one of them said the same thing” this is the most relaxing moment of my week”
Fourthly, oh the tea blends & coffee! The London fog, the iced bourbon vanilla, the pacific sunset, the coconut almond. The Brazil coffee etc, it is a place worth exploring.
Fifthly, they offer great quality honey, and they even have Manuka Honey . I’m impressed and totally in loved. ♥️
Give it a try,...
