The original review can be seen attached Response to the owner’s reply: A few things I’d like to address that are a total misinterpretation of the events that occurred that evening: 1) Extremely busy or not is not really an excuse for our courses to come out randomly when the point of Dine Out is for each person to enjoy their own meals. If you can’t execute it, don’t offer it? As I said, had I known this, we would’ve just ordered a la carte and there would not have been an issue. 2) Your staff agreed to charge me for 4 courses because we had not received any items for the 5th meal, and we no longer wanted to wait – this is when your “supervisor” offered 10% off as well as taking off the 5th meal because it never even touched our table? 3) I did not ask for my parking fee back – I mentioned how ridiculously long we were waiting, how I had to extend my parking for both cars and was almost at the 2-hour limit. 4) I did not ask for the amaebi to be free. At no point did I even make a fuss about the missing one. 5) The following day I called, I did not swear at your staff – as mentioned, I also work in the hospitality industry so I would never speak to someone like that as I know how it feels. It was actually your assistant manager who attacked your staff and blamed it on the two girls being “so young.” In my opinion, it wasn’t their fault, nor did it have anything to do with their age – they should’ve been set up for success, which they clearly were not. 6) I understand Sarah preferred to email, but I did not want to do more back and forth than I already did and have an email from Sarah saying she “could definitely call to discuss” thus providing her with my contact information – perhaps you should check your inbox as I was the one who never heard back. 7) I am definitely talking about service quality. Just based on your response, it speaks volumes to how unprofessional and to the lack OF service “your place” has. Not to worry, this place was off my list that evening. As I already said before, this was the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

I took out a few chef's special rolls off their vegan menu while making use of my Plant Curious coupon book (regular price $11.99 and $12.99 per roll). I was looking forward to trying the restaurant as I'm not close to the area. The rolls were standard in size, and each came with 8 pieces. Our group's favourite was the Mango Roll, followed by the Philly Smoked Salmon Roll. We thought the mango could've been riper, as you can see in the photo the pieces were quite firm (and with the King Veggie Roll, the mango strips on top aren't very yellow/orange). However, the mango sauce and soy skin added nice texture and a sweet flavour lacking from the actual mango. The carrot lox was a nice idea, but was lacking a smoky and salty flavour that we've had in other smoked salmon substitutes. Not sure what was in the 'crab cake,' but the filling was a good 'meaty' replacement. I was disappointed by the service. I was planning on using both of the 2 coupons I had as there wasn't overlap (one was buy 2 rolls and get 1 free, and the other was buy 2 rolls and get an appetizer free). I had indicated I'd be ordering 4 rolls to a staff member to no issue when I arrived, and they gave me the vegan menu. However, when I went to order, a male staffer said it wasn't allowed despite there being no indication on the actual coupon. Some other restaurants list restrictions directly on the coupon. While I understand that they have the final right to honour the deal, I've been able to use 2 coupons at every other establishment (providing they're not 'combined') I've tried with no issue or pushback. Other establishments have been happy for the business and for new patrons to try their food. Sushi Maro wouldn't change their mind on their "rules." That left a sour taste with me and given the food tried, I won't be returning to use the second coupon by its expiration in May. While I appreciate the vegan sushi options, there are improvements to be made to enhance the flavours of the ingredients used.

I used to enjoy eating here when I lived in Olympic Village. But I came back today with my coworkers and was severely disappointed with the food. The chicken karaage was okay but it came with a side of salad that had absolutely NO dressing on it. So you get your chicken karaage with plain lettuce. Would have been better if we had something to dip the chicken in. The ika karaage was worse. The squid pieces were small and covered in so much tempura batter. Absolutely no salt or flavoring. Would have been nice to dip the ika karaage in something like Japanese mayo but nothing. Salmon sashimi pieces were big and were presented on a cool plate with dry ice but that's about it. I'm not sure how fresh the sashimi was though, because I had a bad stomach upset when I got home. The spinach gomae was horrible. It tasted like the spinach was just thawed because it was wet and there was water in the dish. Zero to minimal peanut sauce. I actually had to ask for a side of it and even after, because of the water in the dish, the gomae still tasted watered down. The seaweed salad was okay but nothing special. If you look at my photo of the yam tempura roll, it's pretty much all yam and zero tempura in one of the pieces. There's also a big dollop of the spicy salmon roll sauce on the plate for no reason. The presentation of dishes could use some work. I unfortunately won't be coming back.

I wouldn't recommend this sushi place, save your money and time, and go somewhere else. Walked in today and ordered. Upon arriving, the waitress was super friendly and sat us right away. There was only 1 other group in the restaurant as we arrived at 1130 am which is way before the lunch rush. Refreshments and the menu arrived immediately, which was great. I usually order the same thing at most sushi restaurants, so upon sitting, I asked for a miso soup and a tako sunomono to start while we looked through the menu. The waitress came back about 5 minutes later to ask what we would like for the rest of our meal. We ordered a summertime roll $18 a 6 piece tuna sashimi $13 yam tempura roll $5.5 Unagi Roll $8 Spider roll soft crab $12 Avacado Roll $5.75 and restated that we have already ordered the Tako Sunomono $7 and Miso soup $3. I've stated the prices to help you judge the cost of the establishment. It's not the most expensive place for sure but it's definitely more expensive than the average. After waiting about 10 minutes, the miso arrives and about 5 minutes after the Tako arrives. Oddly, I was thinking to myself why it would take so long for these items as there's a staff of 5 in the kitchen and only one other table seated. Patiently waiting nearly 30 minutes is when the waitress comes to refill my water and I had to ask what's taking so long as we've nearly waited 30 minutes for our order and she stated she would go check on it. After a minute, she came back very apologetic and stated that the order was never received and there's something wrong with the system, but they would put a rush on it right away. About 5 minutes after that, the sashimi arrived, and the rest of the food came. The food itself was sab par. Sashimi was fine, but the rolls not so much. I have been eating sushi for over 25 years, so I can definitely distinguish between quality and not. The sushi rice was cold and hard. Tasted old, as if it was reused from the previous day. Given that we were one of the first to arrive for the lunch menu, one would expect nothing but the freshest right. Wrong. The waitress brought Tempura sushi, and we said we ordered a tempura roll, so she immediately took it back and remade it. The order returned, and it was cold. Tempura rolls are normally warm as the tempura comes right off the deep fryer. The summertime roll was average given the cost and there was a shell in one of the pieces. The soft shell crab and unagi roll were tasteless as the amount of meat in each was miniscule. I'm not one to complain, I usually just won't return if I don't like a place. I complained to my girlfriend and when the waitress came back, my girlfriend told her that there wasn't much softshell crab in the sushi and her response was aww not much meat ok OK.. lol, zero lack of care. The spider roll was all batter. There was no soft shell crab. We asked for the bill and thought perhaps they would have tried to correct some of their mistakes by removing something off the bill, but nope, just apologies. Paid $75 for 2 of us and left. So do yourself a favor and go to sushi Ki Isu Japanese Restaurant just 2 minutes walk or sushi mugen. I've been to both, both are competitively priced but far superior in quality. I've added 2 pictures to show how little the crab portion of my twelve dollar spider roll was.

All in all, I have zero complaints about the service, aside from the fact that the waitress didn't clue into the fact that it's been 30 minutes since we ordered. Perhaps she should have gone and cheched to see what the hold up was. What I got for what I paid was super disappointing. I've had better food from the local hole...

If I could give this place zero stars—or better yet, report it to the health department—I would in a heartbeat. My experience here was beyond terrible. It wasn’t just bad food or poor service—it was a full-blown nightmare from the moment I stepped in.

Let’s start with the sushi: absolutely vile. It was warm, smelled off, and the fish was so slimy and discolored that I genuinely paused and questioned if I was about to poison myself. Spoiler: I did. Every bite tasted like it had been left out all day in the sun. The rice was hard in some spots and mushy in others, like it had been reheated multiple times. Nothing tasted fresh—nothing. It wasn’t sushi, it was a biohazard on a plate.

The hot pot? Don’t even get me started. The broth tasted like dirty dishwater, and the meat was chewy, gray, and unidentifiable. Vegetables were wilted, soggy, and floating lifelessly like they'd been used already. It was genuinely revolting. I’ve had better food in a hospital cafeteria—no exaggeration.

And the service? A disaster. Staff walked around aimlessly, visibly annoyed to be working. One of them spilled water right next to my table and lazily tried to clean it with a dirty mop that smelled awful and left the floor soaked. No apology, no caution sign, nothing. At one point, two workers were arguing loudly in front of customers, completely ignoring the fact that people were trying to eat. The atmosphere was loud, messy, and had a strange, sour smell—like mildew mixed with old seafood.

To top it all off, the place charges premium prices for this horror show. I paid an absurd amount for food I couldn’t even finish without gagging—and then spent the night in the bathroom with the worst stomach cramps and diarrhea I’ve had in years. I don’t get sick easily, so for this to hit me that hard says everything you need to know about their food safety standards (or lack thereof).

This wasn’t just a bad restaurant—it was a full-on health and safety risk. Filthy, overpriced, disgusting food, with staff who clearly don’t care and management that’s asleep at the wheel. I wouldn’t recommend this place even to my worst enemy. Do yourself a favor: stay...

This was by far the worst sushi experience i have ever had in my entire life.

7.99 for the SMALLEST spring rolls you have ever seen. Cooked in dirty nasty oil you know they haven't changed in a long time. Thongs should come out of a fryer that color. Og and you only get three TINY PIECES for that price. Never does it say in the menu you only get 3. Litterally just the spring roll paper rolled up and a maybe a tiny bit of filling. Wouldn't know if they were good I refused to eat them or pay for them. The service was terrible they had like 5 tables and couldn't handle it. It was a little ridiculous.

We got sat at the bar and after the whole spring roll situation I just wanted to leave. The cooks are making the sushi in front of Me. I litterally witnessed the "chef" throw one of the pre made rice abd seaweed ONTOP of his dirty cloth he had been using to wipe his cutting board and knife and then proceeded to make sushi and serve it after it had laid onto of thay dirty clothes with me staring at it bugged eyed in disbelief. They all saw me staring. And still served it to a customer.

I have 15 years of kitchen experience and seeing that made my stomach turn. I wanted to throw up. So DISGUSTING. Do NOT go to this place honestly it's DISGUSTING. I've never ever ever ever ever had a bad experience with sushi until now. And for the location it was a terrible experience and I'll never go back. I feel like I need ro call Fraser health and report them. Oh yeah on top of it all. The water they gave me was super cloudy and had a bunch of floaters in it. The ramakins had dried on like paper? Stuck to them. Dished had greasy finger prints all over. Absolutely disgusting. After we went to pay the lady wanted to start yelling at me after we told her we had told her way earlier that we didn't want that nasty spring rolls. Rude staff. I went to the bathroom directly after a cook. He walked out with dry hands and didn't use the hand blower so you know he didn't wash after he touched his ding a ling. Don't go here. You're better off eating 7/11 sushi over this place. Hopefully they close an let a REAL sushi place open up and stop...
