Dueling Pianos used to be an awesome venue with the husband and wife team, fully packed every time we went, which was often. When they performed, everyone was up dancing, interacting and having a great time.
We were there on Saturday, August 16th, we were looking forward to Dueling Pianos all week. It was bad, it sounded like a bad karaoke night, not sure if they were still trying to troubleshoot.
We got there shortly before the 1st show ended, it was crowded then everyone left. We used to go to the 1st show and stay until the end because it was so good, assuming you got a table at the 1st show, you would never get up and leave.
We had a pick of any table we wanted, everyone left, very unusual. The second show, they didn't sing songs to get people interacting and people were leaving during the show, sad to see.
This is not Dueling Pianos, there was no dueling, I think they call them the Dueling Piano Kings, they sang off tune and just sounded awful.
We requested a few songs, and noticed if they didn't know the song, they were thrown on the floor, ours was folded paper, it was easy to see lol. They didn't sing the same song we requested last year either, you'd think you'd learn it, knowing it would be requested again. You don't know Bohemian Rhapsody? The couple had the place rocking when they sang this song. Also heard it in Vegas Dueling Pianos, everyone was engaged during this song, we were just trying to liven up the evening. This song is one of the most requested songs for Dueling Pianos everywhere we've experienced.
We ended up thoroughly enjoying Nearly Neil after we left after 4 or 5 songs at the second show, just hard to listen to off key singing. Nearly Neil was awesome compared to Dueling Pianos.
The first location for Dueling Pianos was great, no minors, no kids requesting songs, it was a great adult venue for us to relax after walking the park with a cold brew. The kids were the only ones excited to hear their songs they requested.
Just really disappointing. The PNE spirit wasn't there, it felt weird, like we were at Playland. Nobody screaming on rides, no gambling clicking of the spinning of wheels, food trucks were spread out and not a whole lot of choices.
It was just a disappointing evening overall. They offered $7 entry today, and Encore card got you and a guest in for free. It should have been busting with people, but unfortunately not the case. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. Parking was quite affordable from people who lived near the PNE, we scored one at $15 and it was just...
Read moreI am a wheelchair user and I make reviews regarding accessibility around the city.
PNE, please train your staff better on the location of accessible washrooms, and make better improvements to the infrastructure to be more inclusive of people with disabilities. When visiting the PNE yesterday, I felt like I was back in the 1940s. The staff at the agrodome had no idea where I could park my wheelchair, although I did find a spot it was very full, there was not enough space for more than 3-4 wheelchairs in the "wheelchair section" and there were no seats there for our companions, so we have to sit alone.
In the large barn where all the farm animals are I visited two washrooms and found that although there were lots of stalls, none of them were large enough to fit a wheelchair. A staff member had directed me to the washroom in the back of the barn, only for me to get there and see there were 0 accessible stalls. I am able to walk short distances so I was able to make it to the washroom on time by leaving my chair outside of the stall, but many chair users do not have this luxury.
In addition to this, the portable type washrooms are always completely blocked off by crowds, so getting to the washroom there is very, very difficult for wheelchair users.
This place is decades behind other amusement parks in terms of accessibility, and given the amount of money they make they could easily improve this situation. I saw several other chair users at the park, and we deserve to participate in the world just like everyone else. I saw no way for me to safely enter or ride any of the rides, and the staff are all severely undertrained teenagers who were unable to answer any of my questions.
If you're in a wheelchair or disabled, you might want to give the PNE a miss, as there is very little for us to do, the crowds are absolutely nightmarish in a chair, I had people cutting in front of me and almost getting run over constantly.
Other amusement parks have a plan for disabled guests and work to be inclusive of us, they make sure we can get on rides and still enjoy life the way others do. At the PNE, and in Vancouver at large honestly, we are always an...
Read moreThe organizers still have a lot to learn about timing and schedule planning. There were multiple times where we were forced to pick one event over another due to either starting at the same time, not enough time in between or the event only had one performance. Food prices are worse than a movie theater. The Evolution of Gaming exhibit was a waste of space and completely dead. In the past they had dance or theater shows there which were always much better attended and far more entertaining. Superdogs is a PNE staple and always fun but ever since Herb retired and Chase took over as host the energy of the show is completely different. Chase completely lacks energy or even interested in his role as host and emcee. He often walks around with his hand in his pocket while on stage. He needs to be replaced. An example of a great energized host and a welcome addition to the PNE was the jousting show. The host was over the top and his voice was full of energy and he was riding and controlling a horse the whole time. Shame though that they only had 1 match per performance though. Something else that was a huge welcome sight to see come back was the pyro musical show at 10:15 to close the night off. Although only 13 minutes, 20 minutes would have optimal, it was high energy, great dancers and special effects. Kudos to the costume designer for the remotely controlled led costumes. I will continue to go to the PNE year after year as it's a tradition but they need to do some better consulting with visitors or look back at the history books, to find out what the crowd pleasures are. One recommendation I have is that instead of closing down completely on mondays, do a half day and make it...
