We were so excited to try this place as we live nearby! This area of Cambie is really lacking in the cafe/bakery/hangout options and this place really does fill that void! Everything we had was DELICIOUS. The spinach and feta borek was my favourite - full of flavour and stuffed with spinach and feta, super flaky pasty. My partners favourite was the classic baklava which was also incredible and probably the best baklava we’ve both ever had - unique flavour and texture, sweet but not overly sweet. The cheese borek was yummy and had kind of a custard-like texture inside with the flaky crust outside which was so different, light, and tasty. The midye was again delicious and it has a bit clotted cream inside which was so unique and really complimented the sweetness.
We ate inside and we each had a large American coffee which was huge and delicious and served in beautiful double walled glasses (which kept our drinks warm for so long!) They heated up the spinach borek which was just unreal and crispy.
There were two people working in the front, seems to me like a family run business which I love. Both staff were so friendly and welcoming - the man behind the counter had great recommendations and gave lots of details when we had questions about the food. The woman made our drinks and served them to us and they were sure to check on us to clear our plates and ensure everything was to our liking! Was so nice to have genuine service, which can be hard to find these days.
The location is huge and there is tons of tables/seating - again, hard to find around here! Plus the seats were actually comfortable not like most cafe seats. We’re so excited to see if they expand their menu soon and this will absolutely become a new regular spot for us! 100% would recommend...
Read moreI've had Gold Horn tagged as somewhere I want to visit and I'm so happy I finally have. Located at Cambie and West 12th, this shop is definitely a local gem. The boreks are absolutely stuffed with extremely generous and delicious portions of filling and the filo pastry is light and flaky. We tried the spinach and feta borek and chicken borek and both were so so good. The chicken borek alone can definitely be a meal as there's so much chicken inside.
We also grabbed the pistachio baklava and not only is the texture light and crispy, it's also not too sweet which is lovely. Staff are all lovely and friendly and there's plenty of indoor seating. It's also very accessible (ramp from street to the front door, wide doors, large eating area, lots of spacing between tables and the order counter) which is sadly not always the norm, especially for smaller local cafes and bakeries. Highly recommend this place and will be...
Read moreGreat family owned Turkish bakery serving multitude of authentic dishes, pastries, coffee and cola drinks. What we loved: Chicken borek - great taste, flaky pastry, decent amount of filling Mixed plate - Ajuka (sun dried tomatoes dip), yogurt dip, hummus, grapevine leaves, fava beans, eggplant salad, baba ganoush, olives served with fresh warm pita breads. Was absolutely tasty and super filling for 1 or an appetizer for 2. Loved the Ajuka and yogurt dip especially.
What we didn’t like: Mediterranean borek - hardly any filling of sun dried tomato and olive paste and the filling itself didn’t have a particular taste. I think the spinach ricotta one might be better. Turkish coffee - personally never been a fan of Turkish coffee as it’s very strong and grainy but decided to try it here but same result sadly but maybe that’s a personal taste preference.
Great service, cleanliness and quality of the...
