Pho-tastic! As is the case with most, if not all, things in life, first impressions matter a lot when trying out new cuisines, restaurants, dishes et al. Thanks to Tre Viet, I had the pleasure of going on an unforgettable culinary adventure in what was my first ever rendezvous with Vietnamese food (gasp! Where have you been all my life?!). I'm finally out of the lengthy food coma that was induced during said dinner a fortnight ago, hence this delayed review! This neat and new local small business is just a few months young. Akin to the location of the Vietnamese island in Southeast Asia, Tre Viet is tucked away in the bustling and happening West End neighborhood of Vancouver. With paid parking lots and street spots in the vicinity, getting to this retreat is easy peasy. I lucked out by finding a 2 Hours Free parking spot a couple of blocks away (though parallel parking on Denman St is nerve-wracking!). Needless to say, the evening was off to a great start! Thankfully I was not the only one in my group who was going to be trying this cuisine for the first time, so sharing a table and the yummy food with Vietnamese food vets and newbies ensured that the entire evening was fun and delightful. Soon after the elaborate menu got us drooling, the magicians masquerading as the fantastic Tre Viet staff started serenading us with magical dish after dish after delish. And I was blown away by the beautiful plating of the items, the heavenly aroma, and the complexity and depth of flavors in every dish. We started with the Sai Gon Imperial Spring Rolls which were crispy and fresh, setting the tone for an incredible meal. The Tre Specialties platter was a highlight, with the Bun Cha Ha Noi Style Vermicelli Noodles and charred pork slices being a standout. The pork meatball was tender and flavorful, and the Bun Nem Cua Be Ha Noi Style Vermicelli Noodles with crisp crab parcel was another delightful surprise. The Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Rice Plate was aromatic and savory, and the Tre's Special Soup with salted superior egg beef ball was rich and comforting, especially on that cold, overcast evening. But the pièce de résistance was the Pho Noodle Soup, with its velvety broth and tender beef. Throughout the meal, Jamie and his team of kind and attentive staff Annie, Chloe, Taylor, and head chef Tony worked tirelessly to deliver a master class in hospitality. With additional ingredients such as a cozy atmosphere plus a warm and inviting ambiance thrown in, this heartening mixture was the perfect recipe for a memorable dinner. Tre Viet has won me over, so they've earned a well-deserved 5 stars and a permanent spot on my favorite restaurants list! I can't wait to return with my wife and explore more of the menu. If you're a Vietnamese food newbie like I was, or a seasoned fan, this hidden gem is a must-visit.

I had to wait for a couple weeks before I wrote this review to let my anger subside. Long story short. I just wanted something quick for me to munch on at the beach. Went in during 3pm which was not during the lunch rush. I have never in my life waited 40min for a banh mi sandwich. There were only 2 tables including one that just sat down and ordered after me. Guess what ! They all got their food before me! ( including, you guessed it! A banh mi sandwich” ) This was an unreal experience for me especially after damn near trying almost all of the top Viet restaurants in the city. I actually rushed them after seeing the other table being served. The young server just brushed me off and said it’s almost ready. He even offered me tea only after I complained. The two young staff working the front of the house seemed to not have a care in the world except to blast their Vietnamese hip hop. Just go be a Dj’?! They make the same amount for money right? ( btw another take out customer came in 10min after me and ordered a Banh Mi to go as well. You could tell he was getting annoyed too ) I also saw a whole trolly of dirty dishes sitting right in front of the washroom the entire time I was there. Not to mention un-cleared tables. Glad to see cleanliness is one of their top priorities. When I did get my sandwich, not even a sorry from the server. Pissed me off even more. When I actually took a look at the sandwich. It looked rushed and the chicken tasted undercooked. A quarter of it was Bloody which I threw out. I hope the boss see’s this review and really step their game up. The competition In Vancouver is no joke especially when it comes to Vietnamese restaurants. There are just so much other options in downtown that value high standards.

This Vietnamese restaurant comes highly recommended by Google reviews. It's small with only 8 tables, yet even after 1:00, it remains bustling. The decor is cozy, and the staff is friendly. We tried the spring rolls, crispy and delicious, and the Pho Bo Vien Trung Muoi Vermicelli Noodles with Fermented Shrimp Paste, which the staff warned us about. Despite their caution, we gave it a try, but unfortunately, the shrimp paste didn't appeal to our taste buds. We found that dipping it in sweet and sour sauce improved the flavor, and the tofu was exceptionally crispy. The Hanoi Style Vermicelli Noodles with Charred and Caramelized Pork was good but outstanding. However, the Beef and Beef Meatballs with Salted Egg Yolk inside were delicious and generously portioned. Their steamed rice noodles were also noteworthy. Overall, it was a positive dining experience.

My friend and I have visited Tre Viet couple times before but yet, this time was the worst out of all the time. I may consider not to go back. We ordered bun cha and the bun dau mam Tom. Bun Cha is child portion with really small bowl of vermicelli for their price compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in downtown Vancouver. For the Bun dau mam Tom, the price advertised on the menu was unclear and blurry and taped on. At first we thought it was 28$ as we always ordered this dish here for only 24$ last March but the bill went out to 34$ for the exact same portion of bun dau mam Tom. We asked the manager for the clarification of the price but he just said the price advertised on the website was different now as he just changed the price. We are okay to pay the bill but 10$ increase in 2 months for the exact same dish? Could the restaurant change and clarify the price for...
