Major yummo. No matter which way I order my burger medium rare it always comes to me medium rare. And I know it's done properly because when it is you take it off when it is still rare and you let it rest until it gets to medium rare. That way, even if you cut it in half, and eat the rest the next day? That burger is still medium rare. It's clear that they use ground chuck which has just the right amount of fat in it to make it tastes wonderful without a boatload of empty calories. Just great unnecessary ones. The fried onions and the fried mushrooms are never overdone. And they serve Kennebec fries. The Kennebec russet is amazing as a french fry and you can't buy this potato. They only grow them for restaurants Ruby heads up this operation. She looks a little tiny and I might bit quiet. But once you smile at her and start to order she smells right back at you. And more importantly, she makes sure and double sure that your order is right. And there's no dashing It Off The Grill and slapping on a bun to get you out of there. It's made properly and that takes a little bit of time. But worth every single bite. Remind them not to close the bag with the fries in. Then it seems I'm going to make them go limp instead of crispy. I learned this out of Vera's in North Vancouver. Wise words. My recent burger and fries with you know the usual lettuce tomato ketchup mustard sweet relish we're the norms. Unto that this time I added fried onions. The burger with the fries was $14. So it's a pretty damn good bang for your buck. Say hi to Ruby when you see your talk to her and tell her Jennifer sent you. I'm a chef that's trained in French and Italian cuisines. So I'm not the easiest date. So I'm giving you my insurance that you have the great burger stamp of approvalm Now go give it a try and prove me right!...
Read moreAfter a day of running all around Vancouver before a meeting, I was really craving a burger. A really good burger. A spectacular and indulgent burger.
Yelp saves me in these situations, so I did a search and headed over to Vera's. Parking was really easy to find on the street. (Side note: I love parking in Vancouver because it is so easy to do with credit cards. The flashing green traffic lights I still don't understand...) I got a little nervous about the outside because the awning is ostentatious and still doesn't really stand out compared to what is next to it, but then I went inside.
With hockey playing on four screens, this feels like a very Canadian way of eating a burger, but somehow it doesn't feel too sports-bar-like. Clean and open, it is easy to read the menus and order. The cashier was very friendly and told me she would bring the food to me.
I ordered sweet potato fries and they were perfect; both crispy and hot. This is a rarity for sweet potato fries, which I can never figure out. If they have good breading, they aren't hot; if they are hot, they don't taste good. Somehow, Vera's pulled it off.
The burger was also great. I ordered the works and pulled a few things off because it was so big. A very sweet, gruff-voiced attendant (possibly the owner) checked on me to see if they needed to fix the order, although it was perfect. He checked on me at the end, too. The entire time I was eating, he was constantly cleaning and taking care of tables. Really incredible service and attention.

Read moreMe and my fiance went to grab lunch previous to us going and getting an ultrasound done at St. Pauls Hospital. Upon entrance to Vera's it was a very cozy and clean environment. We were greeted by the owner and periodically were checked in on by the owner and staff in a very casual and discreet not pushy and overzealous way which was very refreshing from other eaterys that rush quality or quantity of menu items and forget the first rule treating you like a customer rather than a bill who may potentially come back. At Vera's on Davie and Burrard Street they took time to make sure everything was up to par and even had the owner going to every table personally asking if there was anything at all she could bring us. This place is just exactly what you came to expect from past decades of service and quality from other major chain restaurants but only Vera's and very few other places meet and exceed expectations like we all have come to love and expect from decades come and gone. The owner is Ruby C. She is such a genuine caring person that takes pride in her loction of Vera's it really shows as i said this location is top marks for service from all the staff and quality of food that makes my mouth water...... So to Vera's Burger shack i say hands down bravo to you all for the dedication and experience you are left with when you leave making this a definate return spot for food that is better than most burger joints and staff that would make the four seasons...
