I went to Moja coffee yesterday (March 25), bought a bag of beans and two americanos (one of which was free with the purchase of my bag of beans! so awesome) and upon buying the beans the individual ringing me up asked me if I wanted my beans ground or not, my response was "yes, but could you only grind half of them for me, I find the grind gets stale pretty fast" to which they replied "I could do that, but it would require an extra bag, and I'm kinda against that". To be honest I was a bit taken aback, as most people don't give a @#$% about the plethora of waste we all produce. I replied that I'll just grind the beans at home. I thought the interaction would end then and there but after the barista gave me my americanos he offered to grind half of the beans for me as he overheard the conversation I just had. The ground beans were given to me in a recyclable brown bag, yaaaay!
K, so, you might be wondering why my review for this place is 5/5 stars. Well, for one the coffee is just the bomb. Like, so good! But the real reason is this; the person running the till stood up for what she believed in even in front of what I assumed to be her manager, the manager handled the situation with some serious class and taught his staff about customer service by serving my needs. Go Moja, keep brewing great coffees and keep hiring spicy level headed individuals! LOVE!
P.s. - I need to upgrade my grinder.... currently shamefully using a Magic Bullet to grind...
Read moreEdit: Yay! The three legged stools are finally gone! + 1/2 star for safety in sitting. I still have to see if the wifi is better, and sunny day seating overheats. I'll up my rating after checking those out.
The coffee is good. Their guest wifi sucks. There isn't much table seating and the layout is pretty awkward. When it's sunny, the bar table seats at the windows get way too hot since there's nothing to shield against the sun! Seriously?!?!?! The three-legged stools are HORRIBLE for young kids - both my kids have fallen off these chairs on multiple occasions when they were around 3 and 4 (they are calm kids)! Needless to say, they both refuse to sit in this cafe. There are multiple high chairs available for wee ones and beautiful new change tables in their gorgeous and clean washrooms - which is great! But... those crazy chairs and no available toys = NOT a kid-friendly cafe. Go to Bump'n Grind just up the street near Venables. Toys galore, stable chairs, and awesome wifi. We love it there and the kids...
Read moreThis has been my go-to since it opened. I get a magnificently outstanding soy latte once a week when I buy beans. Did you know 12 oz of soy milk has 12 grams of protein? Almond milk and Oatmilk have no or very low protein. Some cafes have abandoned soy in favour of almond (not creamy enough) or oat (not into the taste). The pistachio croissant is also a staple for me, SUCH a nice treat. This is a legitimate kwa-son, people!! It’s flaky with tonnes of layers, not bready.
I have a policy of tipping at least one dollar per worker each time I visit, because they’re doing such an awesome job and they work really hard but the service industry does not pay a living wage. The rosette on even my to-go lattes is beautiful. This cafe has nice outdoor seating on benches so you can people watch while you enjoy...
