Dismal service. I have been here a few times for a weekday lunch, as it's close to work. Not always the best service but adequate. Today though tried to go for breakfast with my 6 year old and ended up walking out. Place was about 75%, busy but not packed. We were seated at a table and then.... nothing. No what would we like to drink. No greeting. Nothing. 5 minutes. 10 minutes. 15 minutes. Nothing. Tables around us the waitresses were chit chatting with. Staff was available. Three times I looked over at the cash were at any time there were at least three and often more staff standing around chatting. Made eye contact. Nothing. Honestly. I felt that because I wasn't a woman they didn't want to serve us. It was weird, unpleasant and frustrating. My little girl was getting hungry so after 17 minutes we put on our jackets and left. I'd like to say how when we are leaving somene asked how it was or if there was an issue. I'd like to say that because again four people standing around the cash doing nothing and it would be a sign that someone cared. But I cant say it because it didn't happen. So no problem, message received, you dont want my business. If I was the owner or manager here I'd be pretty embarrassed.
Edit: in response to the response. Yes. I know where I was exactly. I am not sure how you would think that the best response to my writing a review to complain about being ignored is to imply it is my fault for being confused on where I was or that i am a liar. To be honest we visit other locations. Queen north mainly and have good experiences. But your reply was pretty irritating to me. I am not the problem here. Please apologize for your frankly...
Read moreI don't know why I do this to myself but Sunset Grill is not a good breakfast place.
I’ve ordered and dined from other locations before and the experience is always the same. Their pancakes honestly taste like eggo frozen pancakes. I could’ve saved nine dollars and gone to wal mart and bought a box for $2.99.
When I dined in on Wednesday, I saw the sign on the outside window stated that they had a breakfast deal for $4.99. when inside, another sign stated “starting at $4.99”. that’s how they get you. Their basic breakfast deal is just eggs, toast and home fries. Once you start adding pancakes, bacon or sausage, the prices and meal options changed. I asked my server about other options because I don’t eat eggs and it became a confusing task. Her option was just to order the kids pancakes and then add a side order or bacon or sausage which would’ve costed way more than their breakfast deal if I just got it with eggs. Long story short, I got pancakes, bacon and home fries, but still paid the price as if I had it with eggs.
If you’re looking for a great breakfast experience, I would suggest Cora’s or Perkins. At this point you might as well slum it and go to denny’s and get a...
Read moreWe’ve visited several Sunset Grill locations for a quick brunch, and today we gave this lesser frequented location a try. The meal started decently but didn’t end quite so well.
I had the $15.99 Great Canadian Omelette with a decent amount of melted cheddar, bacon plus mushroom for a savoury start. Coffee here was quite watery though did provide a caffeine kick but took a while to be refilled. The $9.99 offerings of All Day Junior (2x eggs, bacon, fries, toast) and Pancake, Fruit Bacon were also OK though it’s not much that you get these days for the price.
Where I really had issues were their home fries. I get that they’re trying to be healthy without deep frying but the potato chunks were soft & oily not resembling fries. Moreover, I stopped eating mine once I noticed a root sprouting from one chunk. Our waitress said they’d normally cut off sprouts which didn’t make me feel much better.
We’ll be thinking twice before returning for another brunch. The location is decently sized although strangely a second coffee machine is placed behind a...
