Had a very disappointing dining experience at Hug Sushi. I called ahead before arriving as it was dinner time. I was 10 minutes away from this location and asked the individual who answered the phone if it was busy as I had a very long day at work and wanted to avoid a long wait, if there was one. She told me it's not busy at all. I arrived to the location less than 10 minutes after my call. I get there and I'm the 5th patron in the line waiting to be seated. The restaurant was at capacity. I can't imagine that this happened in 10 minutes and if it did, it would have been better to be honest with the customer (me) about the wait time. I decided to wait. It took us 20 minutes to be seated. I was starving.
We were finally seated. We put in our order and some of the appetizers began to arrive, but slowly. We look over at the chefs area, and there's a lineup of Uber Eats orders that the restaurant is scrambling to get out and much of the items (specifically sashimi), we ordered never arrived.
The food was arriving so slowly because much of the time and effort being put in by the chefs are to fill the Uber Eats orders. I'm not expecting them to prioritize one customer over the other but guests like ourselves decided to be present in the restaurant to experience what Hug Sushi has to offer, in an ocean of other sushi establishments and the customer is sitting there, waiting and watching Uber order, after Uber order go out but much of items that I ordered, at the restaurant, in person never arrived. I notifed my server to cancel the sashimi I had ordered because I had been there for an hour and it never arrived.
Lastly, please take the mango sagoo option off of your menu if you don't intend on serving it to your guests. I visited Hug Sushi months apart and both times, Mango Sagoo was not available. Disappointing, yet again. So much potential to deliver a unique dinning experience, turned out to be one dimensional. Good luck, I'm not keen...
Read moreI've been to this location with my partner on two occasions. The first time, we tried the All-You-Can eat menu and were very disappointed with the experience. The staff did not bring sushi orders to our table until a full hour had passed (and after we asked the servers multiple times to bring what we'd ordered). By the time we got out of the restaurant, three full hours had passed and we had to approach the servers and ask for our food multiple times. It was about 1-1.5hr wait each time we ordered a few sushi dishes.
The second time we visited the restaurant, we wanted to try ordering donburi a-la-carte as we did not actually have any problem with the taste of the sushi on the first occasion, and the donburi was reasonably priced. However, after ordering the Hokkaidon, my food arrived with no ikura included in the bowl. Take this how you will, but ikura is a relatively higher priced sushi item and may be easy to forget about depending on the customer. I had to ask the server to please make sure that the Donburi I ordered came with all of the fish listed and pictured on the menu, and they did go ahead and bring me a small helping of Ikura. I wish this was where the story ended. Unfortunately I came down with a pretty severe bout of food poisoning the next day. I don't think it's possible for these symptoms to have been caused by a stomach bug, as I'd been at home on my own for a few days leading up to visiting the restaurant and am not sure who I could have caught it from.
In any case, take all of this how you will. I personally will not be coming back. I figure this is exactly the type of customer experience you can expect from management who pays for (rather than earns) google reviews by offering...

We usually opt for takeout from Hug Sushi at the Richmond Hill location, and it has consistently been a delightful experience. Love that the Vaughan location also provides the same similar experience. Their party tray options are outstanding, offering fresh sushi at an excellent price. The portions are generous, making it fantastic value for money.
We often order from here for our family gatherings, and the freshness and quality of the sushi never disappoint. The staff is always prompt in preparing our orders, and they are meticulous in accommodating our special requests, which we greatly appreciate.
One minor suggestion for improvement would be to expand the variety within the party trays. However, the current selection is still satisfying and delicious.
Overall, Hug Sushi has become our go-to spot for takeout sushi, and we will definitely be frequenting it more often. Highly recommend it to anyone seeking quality sushi at reasonable...
