Food and service. Items ordered Fried fish Salad Lobster pasta(special) Breaded veal chop(special) Roasted chicken
While we waited, we were not offered any bread to snack on as either complimentary or with incurred cost. This was strange as EVERY Italian restaurant puts bread and dipping oil on your table while waiting for food.
• Fried fish was provided after a lengthy delay. It was extremely hot(which was great) BUT way too salty! The calamari were rubbery and the few shrimp and smelts were so over fried that they tasted as if you were eating fried oil. No dipping sauce was offered... another usual offering at most restaurants. • After a lengthy delay, the Caeser salad was provided to my wife, BUT, her veal chop was not. And she specifically asked they be served together. • I received nothing and had to watch my wife slowly eat her salad as we were both very hungry. She didn’t want to eat ‘alone’, but I insisted. • My wife was then served her veal chop special which looked at best overly pan fried, but more deep fried! Who ruins a veal chop like that! And the rapini were undercooked with no other veggies offered. • Once again I insisted she not wait for my food and eat so it didn’t get cold. • I still had no food. • Eventually, I was served a vey small piece of grilled chicken with a sprig of oregano on it. I refused the dish and asked what happened to my lobster pasta. The server, not his fault, looked surprised and dumbfounded. • At this point my wife had stopped eating her salad again to avoid eating alone. She tried her meat but stopped eating it after 2-3 bits as it was not edible. • Still I waited and finally my pasta arrived. It wasn’t bad, but not good either. The small pieces of lobster, 4 the size of small shrimp, was unimpressive and the sauce was trying to be the ‘hero’ and failed miserably. Sauce was too busy and a mess. Less is more! Even if I or we liked the sauce, again no bread to scoop it up. Oh… and I ate the pasta while my wife ignored the meat and finished her salad. • I was finally served a small piece of grilled chicken(with oregano sprig), but with no potatoes or veggies and promptly swapped meats with my wife. At the very least she could enjoy a warm dish. But she did not. The chicken had a light drizzle of olive oil but no salt. And there were no salt and pepper shakers on table! Who does that! Another server came by and I asked what happened to veggies and potatoes. Again a look of surprise. He did return with undercooked broccoli and potatoes that were black to indicate they were not fresh. Though receipt states no side, I did in fact order a side. Meanwhile, I ate most of a cold veal chop. Not ‘cause it was good, but I was famished and paying for it! • By now we had been served or catered to by at least 5 different Tovico employees of which I’m sure non knew exactly what was going on with our table/order. • Mercifully, the meal was done and but we still stupidly asked about dessert. Server rhymed off the some dribble about various cheese cakes, tiramisu, pistachio cheese cake or ricotta based dessert. We passed. BUT much to our disappointment we saw many tables were being served fried dough balls with chocolate drizzle. Not sure if this was for private functions only, but we may have ordered some if offered. • Our meal ended with a couple of cappuccinos and complimentary little frozen ice cream treats.
IMO, Tovico is not deserving of the positive online reviews. I even canceled reservations at another restaurant that we had previously frequented to try Tovico. What a mistake.
If it wasn’t for my wife, we would have walked out after the arrival of her veal chop.
We actually saw your employees try to kick a piece of dropped cake under a table rather than just grab a napkin and wipe and clean it off floor! Makes one wonder what else happens to the food that is not seen?
We paid our bill as we always do, but our disappointment was...
Read moreIt was only through sheer good fortune that I happened upon Tovico Social Club. I was lamenting at work about how I had not yet found a place to hold my children’s First Communion and a complete stranger suggested I try this amazing new place. I didn’t know her, nor had I ever heard of Tovico, but simply out of desperation I decided to give it a try. From the moment I called and spoke to Tessa to the last second our party walked out the door I was nothing but pleased, impressed and amazed with the entire experience. From the incredible hospitality, the hard working and devoted staff, to the TOP NOTCH food there are NO NEGATIVES here! I cannot say enough about Tessa, Riccardo, Sabrina, and Leo (as well as all the other staff). From helping me set up for my event at 1 am the night before to fulfilling ALL and ANY request I or any of my guests had - they are all incredibly wonderful people and I feel lucky to have met them. Not secondary to this was the AUTHENTIC, DELICIOUS and ABUNDANT food that we were served. From the antipasto that was a feast of italian cured meats and cheeses (I truly have never seen an antipasto plate this huge before), to the pizza and pasta with fresh pomodoro (my guests kept raving about the sauce), to the perfectly fried calamari and shrimp, the tender grilled veal chop and the chicken scallopini that was like butter, the food (along with the rustic Italian decor) transported us all to a different time and place. Even the mandarin oranges were a cut above!!!! As a mother with three young kids I do not go out to eat that often, but Tovico made us feel so welcome and so at home that I will definitely be back….BEFORE and FOR our next family event. If I could give them TEN STARS, I...
Read moreEnjoyed an excellent meal and exceptional service at Tovico Trattoria in their small private party room. Charcuterie boards included a wide variety of cold and hot items that were all very fresh and tasty. Mortadella pizza and fresh burrata mozzarella were also very good. Our group tried a few of the daily specials (pappardelle with lobster and shrimp, wild boar shank, braised lamb) and everyone really enjoyed them. Ricotta agnelotti were topped with a tasty marinara sauce. Penne alla vodka was very good and the portion was generous. Latte and Nutella fritter dessert were both excellent. Service was very quick and attentive without feeling rushed or intrusive. While we were not in the main restaurant area, I noticed that it is nicely decorated and spacious. It was quite busy, with a few large groups, but the serving staff seemed to be on top of everything as all our dishes were served promptly. Everyone in our party of 20 was served our main dishes at the same time, which tells me the kitchen is well-organized. Menu includes a wide variety of options and there were numerous daily specials so it was easy for everyone to find something to their liking. Prices are typical and reasonable. The small party room (booked in advance) provided a quiet and private space for our family gathering, which is a nice option to have. Staff were very friendly and noticeably interested in providing an excellent dining experience. Bathrooms were bright, clean and well-stocked. Lots of free parking right outside the restaurant. Location is conveniently close to Highway 400, just...
