Very slow service. We were seated and placed our drink orders. Three out of four of us ordered wine and beer and the fourth ordered tea. The tea order took a long time as in after the shared appetizer was served and the tea pot and cup were more like the size of a child's play tea party set.. Entrees took another hour and they forgot the half more like quarter avocado for the salad that was ordered. No apologies. The spicy peanut noodle bowl was overpriced for the amount and it was bland and a sauce that was barely existent. It was like they either ran out of peanut butter or doing their best to go cheap on ingredients. I think more the latter. Had always enjoyed coming here but this will be the last time.
July 2019.
I am changing the rating from one star to four due to a recent experience. We were running out of dinner options and were desperate for food after having our respective long runs. We popped into Rebar and were pleasantly surprised by the portions and substantial salad with avocado added to each of our orders. Most places give you a skimpy, 1/4 avocado, we both got half an avocado each as add ons. In addition to our meal size salads, we also had the hummus with tomato chutney. Glad our desperation gave us the opportunity to enjoy dining at Rebar once again. In addition to the food, the service was pleasant and satisfactory.
October 2019
While our faith was restored in July, we're sad that we won't be returning. For some reason the kitchen has decided that just about everything on the menu will have garlic in it and quite the healthy dose of it. For those garlic lovers, it's wonderful but those who have digestive issues or intolerance to garlic, stay away. Even their miso soup had garlic in it. We love huge bowl dishes but we don't feel like we should have to ask for no sauce or dressing and...

The enchilada I ordered and the fish burger my wife ordered were inedible. The taste and texture was like they had been microwaved from frozen. Worse - if you've has the Amy's microwave enchilada, the Amy's beats the Rebar enchilada BY FAR.
The fish was rubbery and solid like a hockey puck. The chick peas were from a can. The corn was from a can. Gone was the fresh delicious food with bright flavour and pleasing texture.
My enchilada had very little filling, I couldn't even find some of the ingredients listed on the menu, and it was swimming in a pool of WAY too much sauce that seemed intended to hide the condition of the food. Oh and it was cold in the middle.
Five years ago on our last visit, this restaurant was busy and there was a line out the door.
When we went, it was empty except for us and two other tables - IN JULY! Height of tourist season, prime location, hardly anyone there. We certainly won't go again.
The server was very sweet it wasn't her fault and they offered to have the cook redo our meal or make something else - but our first food was so terrible we didn't want to try anything else.
Oh, and the bathrooms look like they haven't seen any maintenance in 10 years. Very poor condition, and the soap and paper...
Read moreI found a hair in my food immediately upon opening my take out and after removing it and scooping out the food that was in the immediate surrounding area, I bit into a very over-salted and poor tasting Superbowl. It just tasted...off. I've had this dish in-house (it was amazing), so I know have a comparable. I won't go into graphic detail, but after eating just a cup of the dish I ended up running to the bathroom within 20 minutes with an extremely upset stomach. I was on the toilet for almost half an hour. I have never had that happen.
Accidents happen, yes, but it's more the lack of care from management. No effort to correct the issue whatsoever. It was delivered through Skip The Dishes and the woman on the phone at Rebar tried to lay the blame on them! I messaged their FB page since there is no email contact on the website and they read my message almost a month ago and nothing. I found a hair in my food, it was over-salted, and it sent me straight to the bathroom. And I was out $30.
I've eaten at Rebar more than a handful of times and I like to promote local establishments, but I will not be back after this. Dissatisfied and, apparently, my experience with their restaurant is not of value...
