If you find yourself in Victoria downtown and are looking for a fantastic place to spend the night, I highly recommend visiting this hidden gem of an Irish pub. To my surprise, I couldn't find this delightful spot online, but I'm so glad my friend recommended it to me!
The moment I stepped inside, I was immediately captivated by the inviting atmosphere. The pub exudes a warm and friendly vibe, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day or to kickstart a memorable night out. The ambiance is undoubtedly uplifting, creating an enjoyable experience for both locals and tourists alike.
One of the highlights of the pub is the incredible live music that fills the air. The talented musicians on stage set the tone for a fun-filled evening. Whether you're into traditional Irish tunes or contemporary hits, you'll find yourself tapping your feet and singing along in no time.
As a whiskey enthusiast, I was particularly thrilled by the extensive drink options available at the bar. The selection of whiskies was impressive, and after some thoughtful consideration, I decided to try the 15-year-old Glenlivet Scotch from the Speyside region. It turned out to be a sublime choice, leaving me with a newfound appreciation for the rich flavors and complexity of this fine whiskey.
The staff at the pub were friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall positive experience. They were more than happy to suggest drinks and engage in pleasant conversations, making me feel right at home.
Overall, my visit to this Irish pub was an unforgettable experience. The combination of great atmosphere, top-notch live music, and a wide array of drink choices made it a night well spent. Whether you're a local or just passing through Victoria, be sure to stop by this Irish pub for an exceptional time filled with lively energy and...
Read moreI happened to overhear from a passing tour guide that the Irish Times Pub was once a bank, which would explain the grandeur of its exterior and interior. But what he failed to mention is that their service, food and drinks are similarly lavish, extravagant, and worth investing your money in.
I truly struggled with the dilemma of ordering either the shepherd's pie, or the bangers and mash, eventually choosing to go with the former, as it is one of my all-time favorite dishes, and based on how fantastic it was, I know would not have been disappointed in the latter, either. A thick, warm, fluffy layer of mashed potatoes over seasoned beef and veggies, with a thick crust of melted cheese on top; it's like a creme brulée for people with savory, sanguine palates, or who hate sugar (like me)! Couple that with an Irish Old Fashioned, and you have made me one happy boy! For a few moments, I was able to forget the impending sorrow of having to leave Victoria on the ferry in a few hours.
My wife, who had enjoyed a larger brunch than mine, supped on a cup of their fantastic crab bisque: a surprising find on the menu of an Irish pub, in our opinion, but well-received - it had a savory twang to it I could not identify, but gave it a unique quality that we appreciated, and will not soon forget.
I didn't get the best look around the interior, as it was nearly full, and we had a stroller with us, so outside seating was our only option. That said, service was prompt, friendly and efficient, and everything arrived sooner that we expected it to, even out on the patio.
Every aspect of our visit was top notch, proving that it's not just the luck of the Irish that makes this pub a world-class establishment, and a four-leaf clover in Victoria's...
Read moreBouncer was extremely disrespectful. Myself, my husband, and his friend walked over to have a drink and we were told our friend was "too drunk". Our friend had a drink at another place as did we and was not drunk (verified by other bars we went to right after). We asked what made him believe our friend was drunk (as he only had 2 beers at the place earlier at least an hour ago) he said he "put his drink down". This drink was a pop, specifically a Dr. Pepper. We brought it back up for him to smell and test to ensure our friend was not drinking away or hiding any sort of alcohol etc but instead he decided to push the 2 men (husband and friend) which ended up pushing me down the stairs. We had asked to speak to a manager very early on into our conversation to avoid a situation like this. Unfortunately, I was pushed down the stairs. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I was advised previously by others that this place was a tourist trap and not worth your time. I definitely agree with those statements. I hope nobody else deals with idiots who feel the need to power trip. Lots of other places to see in victoria, this place is not one of them. It's one thing to be a bouncer who genuinely wants to ensure the safety of others, than a bouncer who believes he's some macho man throwing around innocent people over a pop bottle that was presented to him to verify his concerns. Seems ridiculous. If people are cooperating with you, you have no reason to throw them around. Especially since I was minding my business but I get pushed down the stairs because the bouncer was throwing someone else? What happens if I re injured my ankle? Again would not recommend.
